Top six favourites to become new Colchester head coach as they appoint temporary caretaker

The top six favourites to become new Colchester United head coach as they appoint a temporary caretaker ahead of this weekend’s match.

The U’s have got a wish list in mind when it comes to who they want as their successor to Matt Bloomfield who departed to return to League One outfit Wycombe Wanderers earlier in midweek.

The recruitment process has started with, Danny Cowley and Ben Garner already being linked to the job according to Gazette News.

Ross Embleton, who has been appointed interim charge for the Northampton game, said: ā€œThe discussions so far have been like anything I guess when there’s a change.

“There’s a bit of a wish list.

ā€œSome of those I’m sure we’ll be looking at may feel a little bit unrealistic but you’ve got to go for the best that you can get.

ā€œYou also have to respect and take into consideration the applications and what’s coming into the club.

ā€œI think the process was fairly quick last time, in finding Matt to come into the job so hopefully, we can work around similar timescales.

ā€œI think the sooner a new manager comes into the club for everybody, the better.

ā€œWhen I first had the conversation with Dmitri after I found out Matt was leaving, I said to him I’d do what he needs me to do.

ā€œIf that meant staying in recruitment and concentrating on my role, I’d do that but at the same time, if you need me to step in and take some responsibility as a coach or a manager, I do that too.

ā€œI’ll have an input in the process because of the teams and the players and my background in the game.

ā€œPeople might ask my opinions on style of play or characteristics, personalities of particular managers.

ā€œBut Dmitri and the board can really focus on getting the right person for the club and I can take that responsibility away from everybody else, as interim head coach.

ā€œI’ll obviously continue to keep my recruitment hat on and feed in where I’m needed.

“But at the same time, there’s other people that are making bigger decisions around how that’s going to look and I’ll support accordingly.”

CLUB STATEMENT:

Ross Embleton will be in temporary charge of Colchester United, assisted by Dave Huzzey and Elliott Ward.

The trio will take training for the first time on Thursday, ahead of the U’s clash with Northampton on Saturday at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Sporting Director Dmitri Halajko has said the following: “I would like to start by thanking Matt Bloomfield, Richard Thomas and Lee Harrison for their hard work towards improving Colchester United Football Club.”

“They have helped move the club forward and improved our league position from when they arrived. We wish them all the best in their careers and hope they continue to succeed.

“The process is already under way to recruitment a new Head Coach and we will go through a detailed and professional process as we did when recruiting Matt.

“This will take a bit of time and the short term plan while we are in the recruitment process is for Ross Embleton to lead a coaching team also including Dave Huzzey and Elliott Ward.

“Ross has good experience of managing in the league and we know he will prepare us in the professional and detailed manner needed.

“We hope to appoint a long-term Head Coach to take the club forward as soon as possible but in the meantime Ross, his coaching team and the players will need all our and your full support against Northampton on Saturday.”

@malachi21328432: No worries much better than ball or brown

@Jamie_Hudson_: Not Steve Ball šŸ˜ #ColU

@orion_36: Honestly good luck to him. Obviously not the best manager in the world but appreciate how he stepped up during a difficult time

@NathanRef96: No issues with this shows going to go down external route as Embleton has said several times he prefers his role doing transfers ect ! Happily have them for a few weeks instead rushing an appointment #colu

@elliott_elf: Ben Garner now hot favourite 1/2 #ColU

@OliBoylan1989: Can’t fault RC for how he’s handled the situation or how he’s managed things in recent months. A lot more positivity going around the club again and fans are gradually making their way back. Haven’t seen us win this season yet as only been back since Gillingham but enjoying it.
