Dashcam footage captured shows the moment presenter Dan Walker was KNOCKED OUT cold after his bike caught the front wing of a car.
The 45 year old was thrown off his bike at a roundabout in Sheffield city centre, injured and unconscious when he tried to ride on Moore Street in the morning rush hour.
Walker, who previously presented Match of the Day and for BBC Sport, rode his bicycle in footage taken from the vehicle in front of the accident, with the rear wheel catching the front wing of a car.
The car collided with Walker and was sent sprawling on the road, only just avoiding being crushed under the wheels.
He laid out cold for around 20 minutes, and then he came back around to see paramedics standing by and the police.
According to MailOnline, there is a bicycle path that he could have gone down away from heavy traffic through a subway under the road.
The Channel 5 news host was cycling for about 15 minutes before the accident.
Paramedics and police were sent to the scene at the intersection of Moore Street & Hanover Way at 8.36am Monday. Walker can’t recall the accident but thanks his helmet for saving him.

Dan Walker tweeted: “Bit of an accident this morning. Glad to be alive after getting hit by a car on my bike. Face is a mess but I don’t think anything is broken. Thanks to Shaun and Jamie for sorting me out and the lovely copper at the scene. This is my smiling 😂 Thankful for our NHS ❤️
“Blown away by all the lovely messages. Thank you. Just got home from hospital. Battered and bruised but – amazingly – nothing broken. Very thankful to still be here. I have no memory of anything and just remember coming round on the tarmac with paramedics & police around me.
Thanks for all your kindness. Jamie & Shaun were so great in the ambulance – not sure I was making much sense 😂Thanks to Conor the copper, Charlotte in x-ray & Hannah for being so considerate & brilliant in such a busy A & E
“The helmet I was wearing saved my life today so – if you’re on a bike – get one on your head. Smashed my watch & phone, ruined my trousers, my bike is a mess but I’m still here 🙏🏻 Currently eating soup through a straw and being looked after by this gorgeous, tired nurse ❤️
“I understand this is a contentious issue and I don’t want an argument about it. I’m just happy mine worked today and the police officer at the scene called me this afternoon and said I would not be here now if I wasn’t wearing one ⛑️ Back to my cuppa through a straw 😬😂
“Winnie hasn’t left my side this week ❤️ She’s the best. 2 things happened today…
1. I had my first solid food
2. I ordered a new cycling helmet
Thank you for all the lovely messages & for asking how I’m doing.
The swelling is going down but the body is still aching.”
Roundabouts are a well-known accident black spot with reports claiming that 37 accidents occurred on Moore Street and Hanover Way between 2016 and 2019, with cyclists injured.
Sheffield Star previously informed by Cycle Sheffield that six of these were at Hunters Bar roundabout on the same stretch of road.
Rebecca Guy, road safety manager at Rospa, said: ‘We believe road users should be aware they are using a shared space and therefore on the lookout for others – this includes cyclists, people out walking, people on scooters and those in other vehicles.
‘Although we do recognise that cycle paths sometimes provide quieter routes with less traffic, cyclists may exercise their judgement and are not obliged to use them.’
Dr Suzy Charman, executive director of the Road Safety Foundation, adds: ‘We know that cyclists and pedestrians are particularly vulnerable to being killed or seriously injured when they are struck by vehicles moving above 20mph which is why we are seeing lots of 20mph speed limits being put into place now.
‘We are pleased that Dan’s injuries appear minor, but this collision does illustrate the importance of either managing traffic speeds below 20mph where cyclists are expected to mix with motorised vehicles or providing segregated facilities where traffic speeds are higher.
‘I would advise cyclists to use segregated facilities where they are provided especially where traffic is moving above 20mph, but I think there is also an onus on those that provide facilities to make sure they are safe and convenient.
‘We very much need to encourage active travel which brings health and environmental benefits, however we also need to provide convenient and safe facilities in order to realise those benefits.’
This is what social media users said as dashcam shows the moment Dan Walker was KNOCKED OUT cold after his bike caught the front wing of a car…
@majorvonwaldron: Cyclist stayed in his lane, driver changed lanes and rear-ended cyclist. Hope he’s ok.
@kmchambers4EU: I live quite close to a very busy dual carriageway, and many cyclists usually the ones in lycra ride on the carriageway instead of the perfectly good cycle lanes on both sides, it’s very frustrating for motorists, but in this case the driver of the car is responsible.
@KerryWiggins: Why don’t we start thinking about reversing the infrastructure and sending the cars down through underpasses leaving the flat open air and personally safer route for cyclists and pedestrians. Only been saying it for 50 years so far 🙄
@acraven_dev: Blimey! How did the driver not see him? Lucky he didn’t end up under the wheels.
@monsieurballard: Drivers: you just carry as usual, nothing for you to worry about or look out for. You’re all fine 🙄
@owdrider: The only true explanation is that the driver is driving without due care. All anti cycling stuff is just drivers looking to excuse each others crap driving.
@JoyOfPedals: I guess we could also argue that as the road was made of concrete, and the car had bumpers, that concrete and bumpers “saved” his life … But what threatened his life? Poor infrastructure and dangerous driving. THAT’s what we should be focussing on.
@nohandsup: Issue here isn’t helmets, hi-vis etc. The issue is a driver, driving without due care and attention.
@Muzzascot: I see nothing other than a driver changing lane without either indicating or looking, both of which come before maneuver. The sky looks as if it’s at least 30 mins before sunrise, if not after it, and so lights not legally required. Paying attention is legally required though.
@TimRidgewell: I was knocked unconscious and found by pedestrians lying on a road in Hackney, never able to remember the incident, 1/3 the side of my helmet destroyed. That helmet saved me. When you’ve been saved by a helmet, it is human nature to promote that helmet.
@Robinsonpaul10: Bloody cyclists keeping lane discipline and then jumping onto bumpers unnecessarily.
@PaulDys69631436: Minimal reflective gear, no lights, no high viz. these should be required BY LAW. Time to stop putting all the responsibility on motorists and make cyclists just as accountable where applicable. In this case bad driving/cycling, 50/50 in my opinion.
@BastieVelo: This is ridiculous- victim blaming Dan for riding correctly on the road – take a look at the driver – veers into cyclist and injures them. Take that driver off the road.
@danjnolan: Some dire comments here. He’s cycling fine, the car swerves between lanes straight out of a roundabout – still would have, no matter how much hi viz and lights you slap on the cyclist. It’s not defensible
