Tony Mowbray amuses as he starts talking about food during first Birmingham press conference

Tony Mowbray amuses once again as he starts talking about food during what was his first press conference as Birmingham City manager.

There seems to be something about Tony Mowbray and his love of food, as he brought it up again when it captured his attention at the back of the room when talking to the media earlier this week.

This time it wasn’t about his love of revels or Yorkie bars but instead just the type of stuff the club put out for those at the press conference.

He said in his presser: “Until you get in and you feel the inner workings of any football club, you don’t know things like, I’m looking behind you now.

“Look at the buffet they put on for youse. It’s unbelievable, isn’t it? The food at this club is unbelievable.

“I mean, it’s amazing. I mean, I thought my previous club did amazing things in the kitchen, but wow, this is A1.

“You’re all very lucky. This is a one, top Premier League, Champions League food. I suggest to you, and you’re very fortunate it only lasted.”

It comes a year after was about to begin a press conference at Sunderland, but not before he talked about revels and the Yorkie chocolate bar for 80 seconds.

He was asked: “Pick up chocolate. What’s the worst one you can get? What’s the worst?”

Mowbray replied: “I don’t think it used to be coconut when I was a kid. They used to have a coconut one. You don’t have coconut revel anymore, do they?

“I like the orange revel. Yeah, I’ll eat anything.

“Can I start now? Listen, this will be finished before the…

“I love revels. When I go to the pictures or the cinema with my wife, that’s what I’ll eat.

“So I like raisins. So when I go to the petrol station, I get chocolate revels and I keep them in my, just at the side there.

“So as I’m driving to work and stuff, I’m eating even at 08:00 in the morning, 07:00 in the morning, I’m eating chocolate raisins.

“What I don’t understand is why they changed them. I’m pleased to get rid of the coconut.

“We’re going to get rid of them, I won’t eat them all, I promise.

“I wasn’t sure what that was happening today, because I brought myself one of these. You see it back. Sorry. Hi, good to see you’ve got your coat, we’r trying to sort the heating.”

Literally, protect him at all costs. What a guy. A man and his love for chocolate. Things we love to see.

Back to the Birmingham press conference, and Tony Mowbray expressed excitement ahead of his first outing as Blues boss at St. Andrew’s when they host Swansea City on Saturday.

Speaking at the Birmingham City Elite Performance and Innovation Centre, Mowbray spoke about his desire to develop the team and targeted a run of positive results.

“I’m really looking forward to [the first game]. The players have had an amazing enthusiasm on the training ground. We want to play attractive football, and we will get there, but we will first play a game that suits the players that we’ve got.

“We are in a precarious position but this league is really, really tight. I have said to the players that if we can find a way to win three or four on the bounce we can shoot up the table.

“Swansea have a new coach themselves, I know Luke Williams well. He’s certainly in the mould that Swansea historically like to play, very open and possession-based.

“It is important we work with the group, coach each individual about how we want to play. It may take some time to see the finished article, but at the moment the players are really listening ahead of the Swansea game.

“I want the fans to see a team who are working as hard as they possibly can on Saturday, a team they can be proud of. Hopefully, we can put some smiles on faces at St. Andrew’s and come away with the three points.”
