Crewe boss Lee Bell said post-match, per crewealex.net: “To put on that type of performance, against a very good team who are rightly top of the league, is all credit to the players.
“They played exactly how we wanted them to play – with energy and understanding of what we were after. It was top drawer and we couldn’t have asked for any more.
“It was just a really good result, really positive. It keeps building belief in the group and it was a good night – I hope the fans enjoyed it.
“I want the players to enjoy it because they deserved it. But we will very quickly turn our attention to the weekend now.
“The front two were brilliant – they started the game amazingly and they were a real handful. They set the tone for the whole team. They were up for it and they epitomised a great performance.”

“It’s a poor night for us. I’m not great for positives straight after a game and I could be sentimental and say ‘we’ve had a good run and we’re in a great position’ but that’s not me,” Stockport’s Dave Challinor said.
“I don’t care what team you are, you can’t concede them goals. We’ve conceded three goals from set pieces, horrendous goals. I thought we were poor from the get-go and take nothing away from Crewe.
“You get the equaliser and you’re sort of back in the game, you shoot yourself in the foot and you try and regroup and make some changes at half-time and then you shoot yourself in the foot straight after half-time.
“It then becomes a poor night and one that I’d love to say I’m going to brush under the carpet and move on from but I’m not because this isn’t a short-term process around what tonight looks like, it’s longer term than that and that was miles off it from one of my teams.”
Twitter users reacted after seeing toilets, seats and a car window smashed with the trouble at Stockport v Crewe condemned…
@FerryLad:
Born in Crewe
Live in Crewe
Smash seats in Stockport
Die in Crewe
@ChrisEdge81: That’ll be the hard 12 year-olds in stone island gear thinking that they are gangsters
@CarefreeJonty: 😂😂😂 their own club will have to pay for the damages. Clever
@Rick_J_Martin: Have you ever been to Crewe and looked at the people? Nuff said
@WWFCJL: Do they realise Crewe will be billed to pay for the seats damaged
@MRose218535: They do it because they know the law will just give them an slap on the wrist instead of jailing them then banning them from every ground in the country for life!
@George_pvfc: Can tell it’s half term, all the Crewe kids having their cup final day out.
@JoeCos93: Two wrongs don’t make a right, but let’s add some context. Last season their stewards assaulted our fans (to the extent police had to get involved) and their fans vandalised our away end, plus they bricked a Crewe fans last night car because two 11 year olds were singing…
@AlfieHi14845583: Not condoning this, however when one club does it it’s wrong and gets lots of media attention, but when another club does it it’s fine 🤷♂️ I also remember last season when stockport came to GR and damaged the toilets and seats in the away end too? #CreweAlex
@05rosemay: I dont understand why anybody would do this? What’s the thought process? It’s completely pointless and gives the club a bad reputation 🤷♂️
@ade_rawden: Absolute melts..
@stockportjr: I’d like to think @crewealexfc will pay up & put a press release out as an apology to @StockportCounty & to the culprits, who were guilty of this loutish behaviour last night. Hopefully County have appropriate CCTV? 👀
@CooksonAndy: Weird behaviour
@leemcnulty4: Crewe fc will have to pay the cost. Do fans not realise they are wasting money for their own club🤦♂️
@MichaelRealReed: Disgusting behaviour… hope some of the Crewe fans gets punished for this behaviour
@HatterSteely: They don’t have indoor bogs in Crewe so they were just trying to rob it and it smashed
@jackdakin8: Didn’t know they had enough fans to even inflict this much damage
@Main_Stander: To be fair to them, they’d have been confused by this… I don’t believe they have modern plumbing in Crewe yet…
@eggyjack567: Doesn’t achieve out tbf, Carlisle did it to our stadium, most fans stand at a match and a fair few sit, only person it affects is the chairman not the fans and not the players
@Fr4ggyy: Someone should let these idiots know that Crewe is going to be left responsible for these damages. What a loyal fan
@baztranmere: Why would you do that? 😔
