Tim Sherwood launches an attack on Tottenham ‘becoming a laughing stock’ and being so far behind their North London rivals Arsenal.
Spurs are currently in transition after Antonio Conte’s departure. They have two months left of the season and don’t have a permanent manager, with the search now in chaos with the chief being handed a worldwide ban by FIFA.
They currently sit in fourth place with 49 points from 28 games played, but sides around them have games in hand and aim for a place in the top four. However, they have been eliminated from all cup competitions with form turning more patchy of late.
👀 “They’re becoming a laughing stock.”
“They shouldn’t be. But it’s because they haven’t won a trophy… again.”

With the latest setback being news of director of football Fabio Paratici’s ban from football, former boss Sherwood says that Spurs are quickly becoming a joke, especially after the chief issued a video update regarding the club and Conte just 16 hours before being handed the punishment.
Speaking on Drivetime on talkSPORT, Sherwood said: “It doesn’t look good, obviously the fans are feeling it more than anyone.
“Your club is becoming a laughing stock. They are, and they shouldn’t be, because they finished fourth last year in a very competitive league and they’re still fourth this year. There are a few teams just behind them with a few games in hand, we know all about that, but they’re in a decent position.
“It’s because they haven’t won a trophy AGAIN and the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, all the local teams shove it down the Tottenham fans’ throats. They need to start winning something or start producing some players.
“Their recruitment has been very, very poor, they can’t seem to recruit a manager who can last, not only players, the scattergun approach with players they’re invested in, and it looks like they cant even pick a sporting director.
“They should have done their due diligence on this guy. It’s historic, what we’re talking about here, the misdemeanors Paratici has had, so they should have known about this.”
Sherwood went on: “We know what Tottenham fans want. They want to win, it’s been far too long, but they demand a certain style of play.
“It doesn’t have to be that sophisticated, it’s just being on the front foot and having a go and trying to win games, not setting out to draw and seeing if you can nick it on the break.
“They would suffer playing horrendous football, and it’s not been a pretty watch under Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte, if they win. When they were top of the league under Mourinho nobody was saying anything, because they could sacrifice that if they’re winning games.
“But when it all goes wrong and they lose games, everyone will point to the style. They pay a lot of money for their tickets and they want to be entertained.
“The fans want an identity to their club now. They look down the road at Arsenal and they see a host of top draw young players coming through their academy and a recruitment which seems to have been correct over the last few seasons.
“Brigning in Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jorginho for one reason – they want to win the Premier League – and they’ve brought in three players there who know how to do it.
“When have Tottenham ever gone out and bought players like that, or that ilk? They haven’t done it, because they can’t afford to if they keep wasting money on average players.
“But Arsenal can afford it. You know why? Because they bring their academy players through, who cost the square root of zero, and some of them are their top players.”
Twitter users gave their reaction as Tim Sherwood launches an attack on Tottenham ‘becoming a laughing stock’ and being so far behind Arsenal…
@Punkdude1981: And he’s not wrong we are a laughing stock and it’s down to ENIC and Daniel Levy.
@BigPanch15: “Becoming”… a laughing stock 😆. They’ve always been there Tim & will be until ambitionless Levy leaves.
@BluesSW6: Becoming? They always have been, this isn’t breaking news. They’ve had to witness their two biggest rivals win trophies for years whilst their golden era amounted to absolutely nothing 😂
@highburyhigh: This is all so true except “becoming” it has been fact for many many years. “Spursy” is defined as an actual word not by the Oxford English Dictionary- definition “laughing stock, to fail is to do” 👀👀🤣
@Lewismccullagh: 100% right they need to go! #enicout #levyout
@sayers_14: Finally something Sherwood can talk about with experience and knowledge… being a laughing stock.
@Perfect_Pundit: Been laughing at them since 1992.
@MartinWengrow: By the way Tim Sherwood is a lifelong Arsenal fan. But would he own up to it?
@fiona735: How funny is this 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@up_the_ARSE_nal: Sounds like he’s about to cry 😂🤣
@gingeadams: Was listening to Tim Sherwood and all that came across was this embittered, out of touch ex footballer who is well behind the modern game, too out of touch to consider how it may or has changed, and has an opinion of self-importance despite winning nothing as a manager
@CJSN1982: Tottenham have always been a laughing stock!!! 🤣🤣🤣
@CFCboogs2: They really are the gift that keeps on giving
@Ghost1609: Tim Sherwood realise that he’s basically dragged himself with the comment regarding the recruitment policy regarding managers?
@Keefythegooner: He was an effing laughing stock as a manager 🤣🤣
