A thrilling local derby ended up being marred as Dundalk and Drogheda fans fight each other on the pitch at full time.
The trouble broke out at the end of the Louth Derby on Friday night at Oriel Park, with Dundalk playing put a 4-2 victory over their local rivals.
A large group of fans entered the pitch and lashed out at each other, with Gardai and match stewards trying to calm the situation down by separating the supporters.
A number of videos were posted on social media showing a group of Drogheda fans storming the pitch and went straight towards the Dundalk supporters on the opposite side of the field. Projectiles had also been thrown from the stand. Both clubs can expect to hear from the FAI.
Multiple arrests were reportedly made as the violence took place, with Between the Stripes claiming that Gardai kept fans inside the stadium as the perimeter of the ground was secured.

Twitter users gave their reaction after a thrilling local derby was marred as Dundalk and Drogheda fans fight each other on the pitch at full time…
@DarrenJM71: Lots of Irish dancing. That’s all I see.
@deminimismusic: Got to love them scrapping to Mental As Anything’s ‘Live It Up’
@SmithHarol37396: Music makes it even better
@cjhayden82: Best thing about this is the tune
@mparchyafc: Great background song
@KevTiler: It’s not the same without 🪑🍺😂😂
@heavy_sunshine: The music playing makes it so much better 😂😂
@franciefisher1: The spear 20 seconds in is unbelievable 😂😂 get in lads
@jonhopswan: Beautiful soundtrack.
@pbeadling: The music choice 👌🏻
@CyberGenerate: The best ‘music and situation’ ever 😂😂
@CheshireShrew: Football 🤣 I’m just pissing at the music in the background 🤣🤣
@franciefisher1: The spear 20 seconds in is unbelievable 😂😂 get in lads
@tangerine_jord: That’s mental as anything that
@jamiestanway: The song in the background has done me 🤣🤣
@euniesufc: As good a fucking scrap you’d get in Louth tbf 🥊😂
@forzavillage: Surreal stuff with the tannoy music carrying on lol.
@Marley_Hope1: That spear at 18 seconds would have Edge shaking in his boots
@sarm0161: If that song was actually playing and hasn’t been added on… it’s fucking fantastic.
@finsceal: It’s absolutely shambolic stuff from fans and Gardai. And in fairness a blind man could enter an loi pitch with ease. Security is awful at every game. Good thing to come out of this is your man turning into Edge and giving your man a spear on 19 seconds 😂
@OakalyDokaly: Tapping my foot watching the terrible scenes.
@barneyGoxfordd: The music in the background makes this 😂😂
@unitedite: The choreography with the PA system playing Mental As Anything- Live it Up as the scrapping happened is absolutely glorious. 🔉Sound On
@ModernLepra: The Uruguay v Colombia fight has now been demoted to football’s 2nd biggest mass brawl this week. The lads in Dundalk with a trojan effort tonight to ascend to the top
@maurice_murphy1: Great song choice to be fair
@cruane1911: Lad in black with a spere romain reigns would be proud of
@BelfasTownCrier: It happens.. football is tribal, and whilst we prefer not to see this, it will happen. Both clubs will be fined, abs threatened with points etc
@BunbegB: Look at the standard of the security
@J_Forde94: The bald lad in the green top makes it 😂😂 he was like something out of Takeshi’s castle running away after a sneaky kick 😂
@philiporourke27: So much to take in here…. The two lads in the blck on the outside…. dancing… one of them walks away and the other then just clothes lines some poor fucker who isn’t looking 😂😂😂
@FutbolManagerFM: The music makes this. Absolutely magnificent
@daltondullaghan: Very disappointing but the music adds an element of comedy about it. 😂
@ScouseShels: I think we can all agree that clip shows why there are no decent boxers in Ireland these days BUT we have some cracking dancers
@SuperHoops1901: That shambles of pitch has clearly been heavily watered. How the fans supposed to fight on that.
@SteSRFC: I’ve watched that a couple of times. Have you cut out the hugely disappointing scenes bit?
@gongercampbell: Great choice of song though 😂😂 #liveitup
