Three upsets caused in the FA Trophy Third Round at the weekend

There were three upsets caused in the FA Trophy Third Round at the weekend with clubs now looking at the prospect of playing at Wembley.

Southern League Division One Central’s Halesowen Town stunned many on Saturday afternoon, when they pulled off a 1-0 win over at National League side FC Halifax Town, Jamie Molyneux the scorer in that one.

Fair to say the team enjoyed the celebrations with their travelling support after the game…

Another National League club to get knocked out were Ebbsfleet United, who ended up losing 2-0 after extra time against Royston Town of the Southern League Premier Division Central.

Josh Oyinsan made it 1-0 to the team that just love causing upsets and had 25 minutes to hold on, which they did and Matt Bateman then slotted home to secure yet another shock win!

And lastly, Aveley got themselves into the quarter final by beating National League South side Chelmsford City 3-1.

Jason Raad put the Isthmian League North Division team ahead after 12 minutes and held on to that until the 80th minute, when Chris Whelpdale then leveled the scoreline. Alexander Akrofi put Aveley back in front eight minutes later and Jonathan Nzengo sealed the win with a top bin from 30 yards out.

Winners of these ties picked up £6,000, whilst the losers also received a total of £2,000. The draw for the next round will take place at 1pm on Monday. It’ll be live on @talkSPORT2. We’ll have it on the site, like always, once it’s made.
