The six proposals clubs will be voting on

This week, we will discover how EFL clubs want to end their seasons so with that in mind, what are the six proposals clubs will be voting on?

Curtailment is expected in League Two as well as in League One, but not the Championship, who returns later this month.

Clubs in the third tier of English football have recently struggled to come to an overall agreement due to pressure from a number of promotion-chasing sides, while the four tier has already made its indicative vote on the 15th of May, due to costs of testing of players and staff.

Other issues that clubs are facing are financial concerns and player contracts, which wasn’t helped by the many months and delays in discussions. Thankfully, there is no time left and Tuesday will be the day a decision is finally made.

So, what are the six proposals clubs will be voting on?

Sky Sports say they have seen a letter sent to all 71 clubs, which revealed clubs will vote on proposals put forward by the EFL board, Barnsley and Tranmere Rovers along with amendments to the EFL proposal put forward by Lincoln City, Ipswich Town and Stevenage.

EFL board proposal
If the season ends early, the final table should be based on unweighted points-per-game (if required).

Promotion and relegation should stay as should the playoffs which has to remain at four teams. If for a reason the playoffs cannot be played, the EFL board will make the appropriate decision.

The majority required to cancel the 2019/20 season in any division should be 51%. Determining whether or not to curtail the season is a decision for each division to take.

The EFL believes relegation across all three divisions should remain, from the Premier League down to the National League, provided it has assurances the National League will start season 2020/21 (i.e. the relegated club in League Two has somewhere to play).

Barnsley proposal
A general amendment to regulations to provide no club will be relegated from a division where that division fails to conclude its normal fixtures.

Tranmere proposal
An alternative determined by a ‘margin for error’ calculation. Proposes if a division decides to curtail its season, then final standings and promotion/relegation will be decided by unweighted PPG but with a ‘margin of error’ calculation, then applied to produce a ‘Final Points Range’ (FPR) for each club.

Lincoln City proposal
An amendment to the EFL proposal relating to how points deductions are considered in any calculation of PPG.

Ipswich Town proposal
An amendment to the EFL proposal that would require the board to consult with clubs around alternative play-off formats if a normal season is not completed, rather than moving to the existing format.

Stevenage proposal
An amendment to the EFL proposal to provide that there will be no relegation from League Two this season should the division decide not to complete its fixtures.
When will we know the outcome and what is the next step?

Once the outcome of the vote is known and is adopted into EFL regulations, there will be a number of subsequent meetings between the clubs from Leagues One and Two to decide whether to curtail the 2019/20 season or otherwise.
