The first promotions and relegations of the 2022/23 season confirmed – 18th March

The first promotions and relegations of the 2022/23 season have been confirmed following another busy afternoon of non league football.

The Northern Premier League have congratulated Worksop Town on securing the Pitching In NPL East Division Title. They won 4-1 at Tadcaster Albion, and brought along a bumper following with them.

Worksop, who earlier in the season had set the consecutive wins records (19), are back in the 7th tier of English football thanks to Jamie Walker at Long Eaton, who’s late winner against Hebburn Town gave Tigers the the title.

They have maintained the top spot in the table ever since leaping over Stockton Town on the 22nd November, who were the only team to beat Worksop on the Opening Day.

After their two draws on August 23rd, and January 14th respectively, Bridlington Town was the only team that could deny them victory in this campaign.

Worksop will hope to recreate their appearance in the Premier Division from ten years ago, when they reached the Playoffs.

It’s not over, though. The club’s unbeaten streak of only 2 matches the 32-year-old All Time NPL record set by Boston United in 1972/73. Can they do it?!

Meanwhile, Saturday’s defeat confirms Yaxley’s relegation from the Northern Premier League Midland Division.

The Cambridgeshire outfit went into the game knowing they would have gone down if they failed to beat Cambridge City or if Daventry avoided defeat to Loughborough Dynamo.

Turns out in the end that results elsewhere didn’t matter as Yaxley fell to a 2-0 defeat at home to Cambridge City, while Daventry Town were thrashed 4-0 against Coleshill Town.

Yaxley are 20th, bottom, played 32, won 1, drew 2, lost 29, scored 23, conceded 104, have a -81 GD and just 5 points.

Fans reacted with the first promotions and relegations of the 2022/23 season confirmed…

ON WORKSOP:

@jordanclarke29: Congrats guys, way too good for this league. Iโ€™m sure youโ€™ll be a force in the next step up too. Hopefully weโ€™re there with you.

@GrumpyGreyhead: Three years ago we didn’t have a pot to piss in. In fact, we didn’t even have the basic building blocks for a pot to piss in. Now we’re THE FUCKING CHAMPIONS

@renny_overton: Incredible to win the league by mid March for anyone! Well done to everyone at Worksop!

@PoorFlyingMan: ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ Easily the best side I’ve seen us play this season; thankfully in the FA Trophy so we only had to get beaten once

@uptheimps_: Lincoln United fan here, congratulations guys, immense team, should be no way you come back down, good luck for next season tigers!

@SteveOD_: What a team ๐Ÿฏ๐Ÿฏ๐Ÿฏ

@colinsm49915463: Well done from all at Hebburn town fc . Hopefully weโ€™ll see you next season in the premier ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

@simmyngcfc: Congratulations Worksop well done ๐Ÿ†

@BirdWaza: CONGRATULATIONS to @craigparryptc @LJeffs and their team at @worksoptownfc ๐Ÿฏโšฝ๏ธ๐Ÿ† The club have progressed massively and to go on a league run like this has been incredible!!! Decent CUP runs too (apart from Sheff Cup) Well Done Worksop enjoy ya evening ๐Ÿบ

@RPH26: Outstanding ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป well done to all

@Belly_251278: Thank you to every single player, coach, manager you have been immense all season you have made my boys feel special they are both buzzing. And a massive thank you to @Petewhitehead @mwmoo1 for saving our club and transforming it to one we can all be proud off.

@SStudderz: Well done lads absolutely smashed it. Congrats! Go get pissed up now!

@darlo_paul12: Well deserved youโ€™ve had a phenomenal season ! Well Done lads โšฝ๏ธโšฝ๏ธ

ON YAXLEY:

@daniel_tortoise: A sad day, relegation confirmed against a side full of former Yaxley players. What we wouldn’t give to have them back compared to the useless players brought in by the fraud.

@James_Warrener: Sad day

@northernuproar: Sits back and waits for another rendition of theyโ€™re a good side and we held them for 45 minutesโ€™. We know theyโ€™re a good side, several of them played for Yaxley until this all kicked off. The gameโ€™s played over 90 minutes. 45 minutes is an utter irrelevance.

@SamSpencerr: Gutted to see my old team relegated today. The fact little old Yaxley won step 5 and then competed for so long at step 4 with all the budget/behind the scenes issues speaks volumes to the old management & players that got them to this level ๐Ÿฆ
