The deleted Leeds video which saw two players mock Brentford

There was a video deleted by Leeds United video which saw two of their promotion winning players mock Brentford on Wednesday night.

A seemingly straightforward home fixture against QPR did not go as easy as West Brom wanted it to be, nonetheless they drew 2-2 and because the Bees went down 2-1 to Barnsley, it meant Slaven Bilic’s side were up.

Leeds were already confirmed as champions of the Championship after Brentford lost to Stoke City last Saturday afternoon.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men relegated Charlton with a 4-0 win, and as they got they hands on the trophy inside the ground, Leeds uploaded a video of Liam Cooper and Stuart Dallas singing “Mind the gap, Thomas Frank!” after Brentford failed to gain automatic promotion, but it was quickly deleted. Watch it for yourself below…

Defender Luke Ayling also couldn’t help but tweet last night, also with a dig towards Brentford it would seem if this post is anything to go by.

Despite telling fans to ‘Support Leeds, Stay Home’, they went on the celebrate the night away outside Elland Road on an open top bus surrounded by thousands of supporters, something the club have defended.

Leeds United said the use of the bus, following a consultation with the Safety Advisory Group and Leeds City Council, was: “a contingency to assist dispersal should a crowd congregate at Elland Road despite a month-long campaign from the club and supporter groups to encourage supporters to stay at home.”The club said the safety group believed a brief appearance from the players with the Championship trophy would help to signal an end to proceedings, encouraging fans to head home safely. They added: “In challenging circumstances fan safety has always been our priority.”

There were fears that large numbers of supporters could party again outside Elland Road or in Leeds city centre – just like the scenes we saw at the weekend.

Usually, this wouldn’t be a major problem, but Leeds City Council reminded people to be responsible because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

A council spokesperson said: “Like all Leeds United fans, we are so proud that the club is back in the Premier League. We know how important it is, not just for fans, but for everyone associated with the city, and it’s understandable fans are very keen to celebrate this wonderful achievement.

“Ahead of tonight’s match, we are however asking that people please don’t repeat what we’ve seen in terms of large crowd gatherings at Elland Road and Millennium Square in recent days, or at any other venue in Leeds.

“This is extremely important as we continue to tackle coronavirus, and take all the steps that are necessary to protect people’s health and wellbeing, and that of others. This must remain our priority for everyone in the city, and we thank you for your support on this.”

Barriers were placed along the junction of Lowfields Road and Elland Road, near the Billy Bremner statue, though it seemed to have little effect as fans still swarmed the ground.

Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani and managing director Angus Kinnear had appealed before the game for Leeds fans to help in the fight against coronavirus by staying at home.

Manager Marcelo Bielsa was also spotted on the bus, but he chose not to speak to the fans and did not turn up for his post-match press conference.

Brentford’s Thomas Frank: “In life, and in football, you will get a few setbacks and it is so important to quickly bounce back. It hurt on Saturday night but on Monday morning everyone was energised, had fire in their eyes, and was looking forward. We lost one game.

“We have been the in-form team and we know it is not the last opportunity; it is not like we have lost a final. We have another opportunity Wednesday night and, if that doesn’t pay off, we go into the play-offs as the in-form team.”

Barnsley’s Gerhard Struber: “We worked so hard for the goal [against Nottingham Forest] and, in the end, we deserved a big victory in our situation. Now we have the final game on Wednesday and I hope we can reproduce a similar performance so it’s not so easy for Brentford against us.”

“The team, the staff – everyone knows the quality in the team that they will fight and give the best that they can. We believe always that we can stay in the league; sometimes we need a little luck, but this moment showed me that we have good quality in the team and a big belief that we can stay in the league.”

Fans reacted at the deleted Leeds video which saw two players make dig at Brentford, but also on the club defending the decision to celebrate on an open top bus…
