Ten Hag reignites feud with Gary Cotterill by blanking question after his ‘karma’ tweet

Ten Hag reignites his feud with Sky Sports’ Gary Cotterill by blanking his question after the reporter’s recent ‘karma’ tweet.

The Manchester United manager refused to take a question from the Sky Sports man ahead of Saturday’s clash with Southampton.

Gary Cotterill was in attendance at Carrington for Friday’s press conference but didn’t get the opportunity to speak with Ten Hag, with the questioned interrupted and then moved on to another journalist.

Cotterill was warned moments before the press conference started that Erik ten Hag would not take a question from him without a formal explanation as to why. It is understood the Dutchman wants to see him next week to explain the situation.

It is believed that United’s reaction was also due to a tweet that came from the reporter’s twitter account on the 13th of August, minutes after the final whistle of their humiliating 4-0 defeat at Brentford, which read ‘#karma’ and was followed a a smiling face emoji.

The pair first clash if you like back in April, when Cotterill flew out to Amsterdam following ten Hag’s appointment as United boss.

He was still in charge of Ajax at the time and when approached for comment outside the club’s training ground, he kept quiet and tried to get away from Cotterill before quickly driving away.

A month later, ten Hag watched United lose 1-0 to Crystal Palace in the final game of last season and once again crossed paths with Cotterill who knew what he was doing in being difficult.

Ten Hag was approached while leaving Selhurst Park and a member of his security team pushed Cotterill.

“Are you excited to get started? You must be wanting to get stuck in straight away?” Cotterill asked before being moved away.

“Donโ€™t push me, youโ€™re on television,” he vented, “Itโ€™s not good being man-handled by security, Erik. Man United are a big club.”

The veteran reporter believes that exchange is why the duo have a frosty relationship.

Per the Daily Mail he explained: “I’m surprised. It was just two people doing their job but I’m assuming he was offended by it.

“The thing at Palace was him doing his job and not commenting and me doing my job and trying to get a comment. I’m only guessing that was the reason.

“I haven’t been told. You saw what was said but I don’t think it would be too much of a leap to assume it was about that.”
