After a disappointing run of form in the Premier League that has seen the team slip to 9th position on the Premier League log, which has placed so much pressure on manager Frank Lampard, Blues fans had a reason to smile on Sunday following a morale-boosting win over Luton Town in the Emirates FA Cup.
England international striker Tammy Abraham bagged a hat-trick that secured the win for Chelsea lower league side Luton Town in the fourth round of the oldest cup competition in the World to ease pressure on their Legend.
Tammy, a striker who has been tipped by many to help in their course for revival slotted in from Timo Werner’s cut-back before heading in a second from a chip by right-back Reece James. Jordan Clark scored the solitary goal for the visitors – after a mistake by out of favor goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. Tammy completed the route and his hat trick on the night when he poked home before Timo Werner missed a spot-kick, as his miserable start to his Chelsea career continues. The Blues will now face Championship club Barnsley in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
The Blues last won the FA Cup in 2018 and were defeated in the final last season – were in control as expected at 2-0, as the duo of American striker Christian Pulisic and Tammy Abraham went close to stretching their lead, as boylesports football had impressive odds for the fans before that match. But the visitors, who knocked out Reading in the previous round, settled pretty well into the match after Clark med James Bree’s cross to squeeze his shot under returning Chelsea goalie Kepa, who should have saved the ball.
In the second half, Lampard’s men were a little sloppy at times allowing Luton to create chances of their own, Kepa, this time, saved from Harry Cornick and then Tom Lockyer to redeem himself. Chelsea attacker Callum Hudson-Odoi came in for Pulisic and made an instant impact, having his shot blocked before assisting Abraham with Chelsea’s third goal of the day.
Summer signing Timo Werner, who has endured a torrid time since joining the West London club, had the opportunity to make it 4-1 after being fouled in the box but saw his penalty kick saved by Simon Sluga, in Luton’s goal.
A number of Chelsea fans have come out to blast Timo for his below-par displays for the team under Frank Lampard, with many losing hope on a Chelsea revival coming through the German. A glance at several posts online showed how impressed Chelsea fans were with the performance of Tammy, with many believing he has what it takes to lead Chelsea’s charge for revival.
Despite Timo’s disappointing penalty loss and Kepa’s error, the win over Luton is indeed a welcome victory for under-fire manager Frank Lampard, who has come under severe criticism over the club’s current position in the Premier League – Lampard’s team, despite spending over 200 million in the summer, sit ninth on the log after five losses in their last eight matches.
With the hattrick, Tammy Abraham became the first Chelsea footballer to score an FA Cup hat-trick since Brazilian Oscar against MK Dons back in 2016; no wonder fans of the club are backing him to lead the team out of torrid waters.
