‘Take a bow’ – St Albans player produces cracking overhead kick on the turn

St Albans player Shaun Jeffers produces a cracking overhead kick on the turn with the goal getting plenty of talk on social media.

The Saints fell to a 2-1 defeat at Dartford, with the hosts too much to handle, but Shaun Jeffers had cancelled out their third minute opener with 17 minutes left, only to concede a second goal five minutes later.

After losing on Saturday, St Albans now must wait until the midweek round of matches to discover if they will still be in the National League South playoffs.

They currently 6th in the standings, with just one match remaining, but Havant & Waterlooville as well as Farnborough could still finish in a playoff place should they get a victory.

It will no doubt go right to the wire as St Albans play Farnborough, and manager David Noble, felt rather frustrated by the goals conceded due to stupid mistakes and missed opportunities.

“The mood in the changing room is not good,” said the boss. “It’s a disappointing result after another really good performance, bar the details.

“We missed some seriously easy chances in the first half and we conceded two terrible goals.

“Football is decided in the details. It’s not always the best team that wins.

“We knew they’s be tired after playing Thursday night and we wanted to take it to them.

“But to give them a goal straight away with a sloppy bit of play from ourselves, it wasn’t a great start.

“The performance from then on though was really good.”

This is what fans had to say as St Albans player Shaun Jeffers produces a cracking overhead kick on the turn…

@Memdozer: Was just looking at this thinking why not give him a go but all his goals have come at NLS and he’s 31. Scoring record above NLS is poor.

@foodtouruk: Tell you what may be a good shout… START him?

@StevenCane9: What a goal brilliant strike.

@tomhwilliams23: Absolutely outrageous finish this from Shaun Jeffers!! 26 goals for him this season. Prolific goalscorer for #SACFC, but this might be the best of the lot 🔥👇

@marowe1988: 32 but another guy that scores for fun. Could do a lot worse

@OLLYS1MS: Jeffers loves a worldie at Dartford 👀

@worldcup94: Brilliant goal!

@gregdeacon: This is some finish btw 🤯👏👏

@MatthewNewby: That’s the Puskas Trophy for this season sorted! Incredible goal.

@LewisW89: Absolutely baffling that we was on the bench yesterday and didn’t come on earlier.

@MatthewNewby: Think it was his first touch as well? Looks like Noble wants to play a 3-4-3 with a fluid front 3. City were good, especially first half. Only when Dartford matched up on formation did the game change & then they had the experience/ %age football to get the win over the line

@LewisW89: Yeah it was his first touch. The amount of balls that flashed across goal in the first half I can’t help but think that Jeffers would’ve been there to stick one of them away. It’s all a bit strange imo. Would you see Ebbsfleet starting Poleon on the bench?

@MatthewNewby: League’s 2nd top scorer, so he’s doing something right ! If Saints get to the playoffs, will need experience & to take chances away from home. Be interesting to see what happens.

@TheBoroWalk: Hit, son.

@peaky2234: One of the best goals I’ve seen live. 👏👏

@naturalbodybui6: Best goalscorer in the nls but won’t start… Hmmmm

@Eljefereynsy: Great goal, deserved at least a point yesterday

@dannygreen_7: Unbelievable finish

@LivoAaron: Gotta zoom out and show those limbs behind that goal next time man

@ryan_rwdw74: Goal of the season

@scottdavies1988: Oh my word. 😳👏🏼

@DLocke168: Why’s this guy not starting?

@PWest3: Utmost respect for a top quality finish 👏🏻

@jnides8: Madness he doesn’t start but as a Hemel fan long may it continue.

@TheNLSWrap:
👇 Not many goals scored this season will better this Shaun Jeffers effort
🔥 Sensational

Edward Snook: Eat your heart out Haaland

Daniel Oakman: Wonderful strike not many players can pull that off

Toby Smith: #jeffersforengland

Simon Greenway: Magic goal 🍻

Tony Wittich: Might be nice to start with him

Jason Lee: what a goal that is, wont see many better than that this weekend, will be surprised if he isn’t snapped up in the summer

Will Hastings: pick that out, a stunner that
