Swansea cause a fuss after changing their crest again while new home kit divides fans

Swansea City cause a fuss on social media after changing their club crest again while the new home kit also divides fans.

The Swans have brought back the logo from 1998, which was used until they launched a centenary crest in 2012.

They reverted back to the 1998 version, and then in 2021, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of their first ever promotion to the top tier in 1981, the club introduced a new crest for the 2021-22 season, based on a design that was introduced more than a decade later, in 1992.

This was changed the following season with the introduction of a light blue background that had featured on the original.

But now in another twist, they brought back the 1998 version for the 2023/24 campaign along with their new kits.

CLUB STATEMENT:

“Swansea City and Joma are delighted to reveal the club’s new home and away kits for the upcoming 2023-24 season in the Championship.

“The modern, clean-cut designs are on sale with immediate effect online, in-store and via our click and collect service.

“The kits see the return of the traditional club badge – following changes over the last two seasons to mark important anniversaries in Swansea City’s history – which the Swans first wore in 1998.

“Our partners Reviva Coffee and Westacres adorn the front of the kits, while Swansea Building Society take pride of place on the back.

“The club’s link-up with Reviva Coffee also reunites us with Gulf Oil – Reviva’s parent company – who were our front of shirt sponsor between 1993 and 1996, featuring on several iconic Swansea City shirts.

“The presence of these partners means our young supporters can once again wear the same shirt as their heroes.

“The home shirt has a traditional white body, with the club crest and Joma’s logo aligned centrally.

“The sleeves feature a monochrome, wave motif, which also appears on the predominantly white socks, while the shirt and white shorts also feature black trim.

The away shirt is a striking teal colour, which is replicated on the shorts and socks, while also featuring gold trim and an abstract embedded pattern.

“The home goalkeeper kit features orange shirt, orange shorts and orange socks, with black trim.

“The away goalkeeper kit is made up of a black shirt, black shorts and black shorts, with gold trim.

“The jerseys are modelled by representatives from our first team, ladies team, academy sides and Swansea City AFC Foundation programmes

“Joma’s design across all kits is made from 100 per cent recycled polyester, with the aim to stop ocean pollution and eliminate plastic waste through the development of recycled products, aligning with the club’s own drive to be increasingly sustainable.

“The fabric provides excellent breathability thanks to the state-of-the-art micromesh finish, while Joma’s flatlock seam system provides elasticity and freedom of movement.”

As mentioned, Swansea cause a fuss after changing their crest again while the new home kit also divides fans…

@the2econdcoming: It’s a disgrace. Richard Morris OUT!! And have my season tickets back!!

@OfficialRTC: Those genuinely upset about this really need to look themselves in the mirror and get a life. 🤣

@rhysthejack:
Lucky for me I liked both badges for different reasons.
I’m happy this one’s back for the following reasons:
1. Most of my fav players played under this badge
2. It was our Prem Badge
3. is more recognisable internationally
4. It won awards
Once a Jack

@ASHiLEYjAMES: The away kit almost – ALMOST – makes up for that absolutely bumping home kit.

@blaine_scfc: That home kit is as bad as it gets 😂😂😂😂😂

@_aiscott: well going back to this badge is a bit disappointing isn’t it

@LDTatuado1: Current badge > Squiggly line swan

@CaiEllerton: Please keep the badge like that and don’t add the “Swansea City AFC” bit underneath

@ScottJones1996: Gutted !! back to the basic , boring , effortless badge 😤 we move

@evanjenkinssss: Home kit looks shite

@rhyswills26: Oh why go back to the old badge?? I liked the current one among other fans too. Hope the new kits look good.

@Hodge_sfc: That home kit is rank

@Ellisjones200: That home shirt is fucking terrible 🤢

@davies2107: Shocking decision 🤢🤢

@HRH148: Wtf is that home shirt?

@jackjiffy: Logging off for the day to avoid the badge kit tantrums

@MattW16x: Home kit is grim, but that away kit is STUNNING

@BigO_89: Just throwing it out there. I know there is controversy about these badges. I am Team Crest. Much better than the squiggle.

@raccoonstans: Ugly badge is back and the fans are not coping well I think it’s the heat

@hywel1979: That’s another home shirt I won’t be buying.

@Puddy148: Disappointed yes. Angry no. Do I like the current badge more yes. Will I buy any Swansea shirt with a Swan on my chest yes. Kicking off over it just silliness. It’s all personal taste. But swan is a swans 🤍🖤 🦢

@CharlieSwans8: Yes lads. The 🐐 of all badges is returning

@CarlRob35852957: Changing the badge again 🤣 just stick the the one we currently have, much smarter

@ryan__scfc: worst kits we’ve ever had

@Leeswanseajack: This is the right decision. It is our badge. It’s been on the side of the stadium since 2005. Normal service has now resumed. Thank you.

@lerme01414567: Prefer the other badge but I still like this one

@BishieBish: No idea why we are going back to a dated badge, the current one was far better branding, far more identity

@Kyle_quarters: Fucking shit

@arranle: It’s an elegant modern badge! I love the retro one but 2 seasons is enough….

@moggsymo: I love the current badge, and I think this may be a mistake in terms of merch sales. But you can not deny the lines are a beautiful piece of design instantly recognisable. #Swans

@the2econdcoming: This is what you get when we put a Cheltenham Town fan in charge of @SwansOfficial commercial department. 20 odd years of these squiggly lines and a badge thrust on us by some of the worst owners we’ve had. What a calamitous mistake @rkmorris1177

@meghankroles: Kinda heart broken the retro badge is leaving us 🥲

@L17MSWONZ: waiting for the incoming civil war in the fanbase over the badge change

@steveswin_79: Stick your effing squiggles where the sun doesn’t shine. 🤢🤮

@BowenWilkie: The squiggly looking duck is back. What a shit decision. #swans

@paulo11smith: Yep, the owners of our football club with no ambition or competance are going to undo the only good commercial decision that they’ve made in their time here. Well done lads.
