Sunderland post video taking aim at those who wrote them off and predicted them to go down

Sunderland post a video which has since gone viral, taking aim at those who wrote them off and predicted them to go down.

There were incredible scenes at the Stadium of Light on the final day of the season, with Sunderland, in their first season back in the Premier League since being relegated from it in 2017, climbing from 10th all the way up to 7th and secured Europa League football next season.

We’ve had emotional scenes, celebrations, speeches and now the club’s media team have gone and posted a video mocking those who tipped them for relegation…

In the 3 minute clip, it begins with Alan Shearer saying: “They’ll struggle and it’ll be really tough for them. So I’ve got them being relegated again.”

Gary Lineker: Yeah, me too.

Micah Richards: “Yeah, relegated.”

Simon Jordan: “But I think Sunderland are just a little bit of a tragedy right now.”

Rory Jennings: “I feel like it’s going to be Sunderland who are bottom of the league come May 2026.

Then comes others predictions and opinions before Sunderland play out some of their memorable best moments of the season.”

“19th Sunderland.”

“I’m confident we’re going to do the job and battle them.”

They show Alan Shearer again, who says in one clip: We want Sunderland back in the Premier League because it’s guaranteed six points for us [Newcastle] innit?”

Then comes another highlights reel”

Lastly, it ends on Simon Thomas, who says: “So that final home game of the season against Chelsea in a week’s time, they could potentially not just finish above Newcastle United, not just be remaining in the Premier League, which is massive in itself, they could potentially be talking about European football come the end of the season.”

The clip ends with Sunderland booking a place in Europe.

Here’s how fans reacted after Sunderland post a video taking aim at those who wrote them off and predicted them to go down…

@Lacompactdisc: This is the kind of pettiness everyone can get behind. Have to applaud it. 👏🏽

@CalSAFCFTM: This is class 🔴⚪️😂 Fuck all the doubters

@a1973safc: This has been the admins favourite week at work by a mile 🤣 This is absolute top tier content hahaha

@GJohnson2022: Just shows you that every single pundit and ex player dining out on TV money are fucking clueless. Rooney Neville and Shearer took teams down yet give managerial advice

@leejforsyth: Fuck the BBC and match of the day 🤡

@Xhazza18: And everyone is still doubting us for next season 😂

@ixnafc: Love this, bunch of jornos and podcasts that don’t have a clue of what they’re talking about

@alistairrenwick: This season has been a cleanse, we used to see #NUFC fans on every single SAFC post, now? Nowhere to be seen.

@ElliottSAFC: Well done media team 👏👏 Hopefully we keep getting underestimated next season which looks the case with us being 4th Faves to go down.  Watching this honestly still can’t believe how ney on perfect this season has been. Just feels like a dream. And hopefully for once when we sing “things can only get better” it’s on the back of positivity & not the normal disappointment #SAFC

@WokChic: This is soooooo satisfying. There’s nothing like pundits having to eat their words. That showed them, my beloved Black Cats! What a season, what a kick in the guts to all the doubters! #safc

@RejectedBook: This is one of the best things I have ever seen on this app, our media team are SENSATIONAL. 👏👏👍👍🎉🎉❤️❤️⚽️⚽️ #SAFC

@AntonyCarlHiggs: Exhibit A of why people shouldn’t pay for the football opinions on Sky Sports, TNT or any other broadcaster. Absolutely clueless most of the time washed with ‘big 6’ bias. Well done Sunderland and to my beloved Leeds of course for shutting them up. #lufc

@safcfansreact: This is absolutely brilliant. We need to keep this siege mentality going when they predict a season of struggle for us again in August.

@eb92safc: Give admin a payrise immediately @SunderlandAFC. Sensational watch this.

@SuperkevFTM: If Carlsberg did tweets, it would be this, the best in the world. Awesome effort Media team.

@ben_mummery: Side note – @SunderlandAFC’s media this season has been absolutely superb! Don’t know what changed but you’ve nailed it recently.

@boltonfan96: 🤣🤣🤣 it’s about time @SkySportsPL & who ever else these work for realise they no fuckall about football 🤣

@Matty6773: I know a lot of people will think this is #SAFC’s media team behind the unreal videos of the last couple of years but it’s actually my mates’ agency – YNOT. They’re all massive lads fans and based in Sunderland. Just thought they deserve a shout out and the credit!

@LdoubleE_87: Absolutely superb this – top, top drawer and shoves it right in the faces of the lot who laughed at us and wrote us off 😂 #SAFC

@JordanMarley22: That is quite simply one of the best pieces of media we’ve ever produced 👏

@tobyasky: Football prediction is the hardest thing to do, that’s why majority don’t win betting. Sunderland relegating was a logical prediction, when you consider the trend. All 3 teams that have promoted have relegated in the last two seasons if I’m right. Then, there’s Sunderland who finished 14 points behind Sheffield United, they didn’t even get automatic promotion, so nobody really rated them. So, it is more of Sunderland proving us wrong, rather than being bad at predictions. Kudos to them really. No story is sweet without doubters.
