Stoke fans give their feedback after being asked on club’s potential crest change

Stoke City fans give their feedback ahead of a consultation process after being asked on the club’s potential crest change.

The Potters have a desire for fan involvement in club identity decisions with this consultation coinciding with the 100th anniversary.

Fans have shown interest in reverting to or incorporating elements from historical crests, like the city’s coat of arms, indicating a focus on heritage in the club’s branding.

CLUB STATEMENT:

Supporters of Stoke City are set to be consulted regarding the future of their Club’s crest to establish whether there is an appetite among the fanbase for potential change.

Following initial conversations with the independent supporters’ panel, Stoke City Connect, the request for thoughts, feelings and opinions will be widened to all fans.

Should the consultation period demonstrate a desire among supporters to progress towards a possible change, the Club will work to bring proposals during the months ahead.

Why are we consulting about our crest?

Our current crest will forever be positively associated with a successful period of Premier League football and, for many of our younger fans, it carries the weight of being all they’ve known.

What it lacks, however, is symbolism relating to the heritage of our city and Club, what it means to be a Stokie and what is synonymous with Stoke-on-Trent.

Should the majority of fans be supportive of a change, the Club envisages working towards prospective designs that chime with the tradition, history and identity of the city and Club.

What are the next steps?

In the coming days, supporters who are opted-in via their My Stoke Account to receive communications will receive an email requesting their views on the future of the Club Crest.

Fans who are not currently opted-in, or are unsure whether they are opted-in or not, should register here before 8am on Monday, February 24.

Surveys will then be circulated and details of any in-person consultation events will be shared.

If supporters opt for a new crest to be explored, and a new design is approved, the ambition would be for it to appear for the first time on 26/27 season kits. The Club would not, however, compromise the design or consultation process in pursuit of this timeframe.

How do I ensure that I receive emails regarding the Club Crest consultation?

Supporters who are opted-in to receiving emails from their Club need not register.

Fans who wish to take part in the consultation and are opted-out of receiving email correspondence from Stoke City should register here.

If you are in any doubt as to whether you are opted-in to receiving emails or not, and you wish to take part in the consultation, we recommend that you register here.

What would the rollout of a new crest look like?

Should a new crest be inaugurated, its rollout across the Club’s estate would be phased.

Although, from the date of the changeover, the new crest would appear on the Club’s kits and digital channels, it would not be a case of a single sweep of immediate change across all areas in relation to physical signage.

The old crest, in that circumstance, would continue to appear in some locations across the Club’s venues for a period of years to come.

Stoke fans give their feedback after being asked on the club’s potential crest change…

@ScFcspak: I do say I would like to maybe see a change with the badge having some resemblance with an old one with some modern aspects

@Stokecake: 2 or 3 I like both

@mcalistersteven: I like the badge as it is

@TheStokeStand: Left middle only correct decision. Right middle but without the white around the outside is nice tho

@PaulSalt75: I’ve always loved number 1 the panini shiny sticker of that badge was lovely 😍

@john_hughes_88: 2 or 3 for me i have got them on the back of me legs

@finastokie: Definitely 1 or 2 dor me that fake thing with the 3 kilns is hideous

@MarkyOatcake: Number 3 for me.

@gillyspotters: The stoke on Trent crest ❤️

@Lee180cosky: Number 2 for me. My first Stoke top had that badge. 😃

@potterscope_: Hire a designer, not fans to decide the future of the badge Of course consult the fans (in general, not just the supporters group) in whether the crest should be changed in the first place, But hire a designer in relation to the actual change IMO

@StokeStokie72: The first classic crest for me and I’m old enough to remember us playing with all of them

@burge2u: Happy with the simplicity of the current badge. No need to change IMO 👍🏼⚽️

@StokieJulie: The third crest for me

@smk27Steve: Probably not too many agree, but I’d stick with the current one. I obviously like them all but I think we’re opening up a can of worms. Risking alienating a lot of fans if there’s an almost equal split of opinion

@StonierTom71869: Should never have dropped the coat of arms, great design with lots of history attached to it

@shirleyhow1951: 3 👍
