Stockport’s Louie Barry and Wrexham’s Jack Marriott wows with an outrageous finish for their goals in their League One openers.
After achieving three promotions in six seasons, and with the club tipped for potentially another promotion, Stockport fans are understandably filled with optimism and excitement as they make their return to League One for the first time in 14 years.
The same can be said for Wrexham, they’re back in the third tier for the first time since 2005. Now under the ownership of Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, they’ve won back-to-back promotions and are also tipped for a high finish.
The Hatters have made significant summer signings aimed at strengthening the squad and enhancing depth, especially in the midfield and forward positions.
However, manager Dave Challinor remains cautious, recently stating that this season will be “different” and more “challenging” for his team.
But judging by their quick start and impressive performance against Cambridge, a 2-0 win, plus the wondergoal from Louie Barry, they should go on to do well and have a high finish this season.
Stockport County said on that goal from their loanee: “We have just seen something truly special from that man Louie Barry!
“Corey Addai’s ball forward is flicked on by Wootton to Barry, who from 30 yards out sends a stunning half-volley dipping over the keeper to give County a flying start!”
Michael Dawson said on Sky Sports: “The audacity. Just to try. The lob from Louis Barry was absolutely unbelievable.
“He must be 25 yards out. I need to see this again.
“It’s just a long punt up the field. It’s honestly, It’s unbelievable. You see? You think? Surely not. Oh, yes. Oh, yes. Oh, yes. Oh, yes.
“It’s in the back of the net there. What a goal. Wow.
“I mean, It’s absolutely brilliant. Louis Barry just, I think he’s touched it once before that. Just the cheek, and it’s absolutely magnificent. What a start for Stockport. What a start for me, watching this game.”

Meanwhile at the Racecourse Ground, Wrexham put in a comfortable performance against Wycombe Wanderers.
29 minutes in, the Dragons double their lead before the half with a beauty, Jack Marriott curling the ball into the top corner with the outside of his boot after some rather lovely bit build-up play.
Wrexham wrote: “Ollie Palmer flicked the ball invitingly to Jack Marriott, who curled the ball into the top corner with the outside of his boot on the volley!”
Clinton Morrison says in the Sky Sports News studio: “And the first such from Marriott is probably even better. But look at it. He just played it Into Palmer, flicks it around the corner to his mate. The chest and the finish, have some of that. What a finish that is great technique. And I know even the owners were happy because they were celebrating and we’re going to get to them. But the finish is absolutely top draw and Wrexham have started this game on fire.”
Simon Thomas said: “You went early with the game over.”
Clinton added: “No, never. No game over. I was just waiting to see the owners celebrating. Look at them all the superstars In the box. It’s all Hollywood In there, let me tell you. But, yeah, and that was a Hollywood finish, I’m telling you that for.”
“That was a HOLLYWOOD finish” 🤩
