Stockport do league double over Bolton and cheekily taunt them with chant at full time

Stockport County do league double over Bolton Wanderers and the away end cheekily taunt them with a chant at full time.

Isaac Olaofe produced a spectacular winner, being the only goal of the game, a vital three points for the Hatters to earn a double over their League One playoff rivals.

Following Saturday’s action, stockport are 5th with 65 points from 37 games played, Bolton are 7th with 60 points from 37 games, and a point from the playoff places, with Huddersfield 6th.

Stockport fans could be heard chanting “Bolton get battered, everywhere they go!” just to add extra frustration for the Trotters fans out of the ground…

“That’s like a Louie Barry goal for us,” said Stockport boss Dave Challinor, per Bolton News, on Olaofe’s 72nd-minute winner.

“Louie would find himself in those slots and suddenly the ball would drop and he would be away.

“Tanto (Olaofe) has real pace and the big plus for me was that composure to come inside and finish it well.

“You know in transition, he will cause teams problems. It only takes one of those moments to get that chance and fortunately he took it.”

On referee Ben Toner’s decision not to show a second yellow card to Kyle Knoyle just before the break, with already cautioned Knoyle going on to be subbed: “I don’t think the second one was a yellow card but once you have been booked and make a couple of other fouls you are on the brink.

“I have not seen it back but if you are telling me we got a favourable refereeing decision then I am delighted.

“There is no panic. I said to the players the results and performances we have had leading up to the last two games have earned them the right to lose a couple.

“We have come out of two tight games with no points when arguably we could have taken something from both games.

“They can go into break with to reset mentally and physically and go and attack the last nine games.

“They have put themselves in a brilliant position. We probably need 16 or 17 points from those nine games (to make the play-offs).

“No one wants to see players get sent off for unnecessary fouls.

“His first one, though, could potentially have been a straight red. It was that hard.

“You almost feel Knoyle can’t make too many more mistakes. But he did two more fouls and the second one on its own could have been a yellow. So, it was a big moment.”

“We’re on the back end of two results that have gone against us but what we need to remember is we’ve given ourselves a brilliant chance,” said Bolton’s Steven Schumacher via the club website, with the boss overseeing five wins and a draw in nine games since taking over.

“Since we’ve come in the building, if someone would have said to us that you’d get to this point and you’re in the top six, with the two teams below us having to win to go above us, then we’d have taken it.

“We’ve just got to go and rest now and refresh and get ready to attack the last nine. The results that we’ve had and the performances that we’ve had before these last two games allow us that time to lose a game.

“You’re always going to lose games in football. It’s not a simple science where you just know how to win every single game. Obviously, we wanted to pick points up on Tuesday night. I felt we deserved to and I felt we probably deserved something from today’s game. It was a close game and it’s decided by small margins.

“I’ve just said that to the players, go and enjoy your break. They’ve got a few days off now to sort of mentally re-charge and physically re-charge. We’re using certain players a lot in games and that obviously takes a lot of energy.

“So, I’ve just said look after yourselves for a few days and then when we get back in the back end of next week, be ready to go and ready to train. Then we go and attack two other big fixtures for us at Blackpool and Wigan, two tough away games.

“There’s loads to play for, they can’t lose confidence. I certainly won’t lose belief in them and I hope our fans don’t either.”

“I thought we’d come up against a good team,” Schumacher added. “It was a third game in a week for us and they had a clear week, so maybe they had a little bit more energy in the closing stages to concentrate and defend their box as well as they did later on.

“I thought it was tight. They had a couple of moments, we’d had a couple of moments in the first half and we said, ‘look, let’s make sure you concentrate because one goal is probably likely to win this’ and unfortunately for us, they got it.

“They’ve been in the top six pretty much all season. They’re consistent, well organised and they’ve got good players, so it’s not easy if they score first and especially when we’ve come off the back of a three-game week and a long journey and a late night.

“But the lads tried, I must say. I’d give our players loads of credit for that. The energy that we tried to play out was good, some of the quality that we had in the first half and in the second half was good, but we’ve just come out of a tough week.”

Twitter users reacted as Stockport do the league double over Bolton and cheekily taunt them with a chant at full time…

@LIAMG15x: TOP 2 THEY SAID 😂😂😂😂😭😭😭

@WanderasLuke: Deserved winners today. No complaints from me, as I felt we weren’t good enough. The only positive is that our keeper made some good saves, keeping the scoreline down. Other than that, we just weren’t good enough. I wish you all the best going forward.

@Havoc11uk: Thanks for the 6 points lads 🤣🤣🤣

@drac_uk: Very Ian Evatt like performance. Sideways and backwards back in full effect. Tactics or petrified players? Sheehan, Randall and Matete were awful

@markyatesbwfc: Best team won today 100%. Schumacher will have learnt more about these lot today than any of the other games. Baxter our MOTM today stopped us getting trounced

@IanLever7: Shocker of a performance and weak mentality right through this team. Why do we persist in pissing about with the ball at the back and constantly slowing the game down. No need to keep constantly changing the team round as well, too much tinkering around with personnel

@omairsadiq9: Why does it take us to go a goal down to finally wake up and put some pressure on them? Really poor defending once again.

@14hippy: Bottled it after you won your cup final 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

@BiggusD11559466:
Fuck off. Can’t even get up for a big game🖕.
Well done stockport.👏👏👏

@bradt_bwfc: 10-12 players get the fuck out in summer

@bwfc_archie5: Fucking embarrassing. Shite squad, been shit for ages, that winning run with late winners was so fake. lso ref’s a c*nt
