Steve Bruce in heated confrontation with West Brom fan at Deepdale after Preston defeat

Steve Bruce got in a rather heated confrontation with one West Brom fan at Deepdale stadium after defeat against Preston North End.

Video footage has come to light showing the manager facing up to an angry Baggies supporters on Wednesday night after the side’s 1-0 loss which has left them in the Championship’s relegation zone.

Bruce, 61, is under huge pressure at The Hawthorns but is still expected to be in charge of when they play against Luton at home on Saturday afternoon.

After the loss at Preston, Andrew Beaven uploaded a video of himself getting into an argument with Bruce after it was alleged that his son and coach Alex swore at him.

Beaven wrote on his Twitter account: “Steve Bruce claiming that I swore at him last night, after his son (employee of yours) gave me and my 13 year old son the middle finger! I never swore at him, I simply told him to get out my club, and his brat of a son stuck his finger up at us!

After the supporter said that this is his club, Bruce said: “I totally agree with you but you’re a grown man.”

Beaven said that he wasn’t sticking his fingers up or swearing at the West Brom coaching staff because there were kids around, to which Bruce said: “You were to start with.”

Steve Bruce said in his post-match interview: “I didn’t think we deserved the defeat.

“Again, the talking point will be the fact we’ve conceded very, very early and given ourselves a mountain to climb.

“It’s all we’ve spoken about for the last week, not conceding early goals. We have to be able to give ourselves a chance.

“There seemed a nervousness to us, even though I swapped half of the team. Unfortunately we’ve made the same mistakes as we seem to have done plenty of times this season.

“After that, I thought we were camped in their half and we had a couple of big chances which we failed to take.

“We had enough to get something from the game, but unfortunately we didn’t and it’s so disappointing.

“The frustration is there for everybody. I can understand how people feel. We’ve not got the results we’ve needed, but I still think we’re on the right course.

“I still think we can make a challenge of trying to get up to where we want to be, which is of course around the play-off places. I’m determined to see it through.”

Fan site West Brom News gave their opinion on the clip, writing: “It seems the pressure is getting to Bruce.

“While none of the accusations being made by either Bruce or the fan can be proven, it doesn’t look great for the club’s manager to be confronting fans like this.

“If it was another member of the coaching staff who’d allegedly swore at this fan, would Bruce have confronted him?

“We get that he’s standing up for his son, but his son is a former Premier League defender who’s 38 years old. Why does he need daddy to fight his fights for him?

“West Brom fans are furious right now.

“Bruce’s time in charge of the club has been a nightmare and it’s unbelievable that he remains in the job with the Albion sitting in the Championship’s relegation zone ahead of their clash with Luton on Saturday.

“If we fail to win that, surely it’s curtains for the former Newcastle and Aston Villa manager?

“We’ve said that numerous times though now.”

This is how Twitter users reacted with Steve Bruce filmed in a heated confrontation with one West Brom fan at Deepdale after defeat to Preston…

@monkeynuts65: @WBA any comment on this from our so called manager disgrace get him gone

@glewcock86: Typical Bruce never allows anyone else to finish their sentence or get their point across! Do the football world a favour Steve, just retire go and enjoy the rest of your life in peace, spend the rest of your remaining years living it out in sunny Portugal

@mainy99: Steve Bruce and his son will hanging to end bitter end for the pay off. Speaks volumes of the man

@RonnieTemplar: The man is going round pretending to be a manager, stealing a living and somehow getting away with it! You will all be branded as bullies by him and his football pundit friends!

@TalkofTyneside: Never his fault. Rinse and repeat for the last 20 years

@Dazzle777Razzle: But, but he’s a really nice bloke with a family

@Mike_of_Medburn: Exactly the sort of behaviour Newcastle fans came to expect from Alex Bruce.

@ScottyNUFC433: @AlexBruce84 has history with this, it’ll be my Dad has received death threats next. Pair of chances.

@baggiedave70: Whatever the rights and wrongs here keeping Bruce in charge is just raising the toxic level higher. Meanwhile the club have their head in the sand while a side with the 5th highest wage bill in the Championship sits in the bottom 3.

@SteMartPhotos: He’s just a very unpleasant bloke. Lied about our fans after he was sacked and all his media mates backed him up.

@Louismc1988: If in doubt big Steve plays the victim card

@Fozzie94: Waiting for his next compensation payment. Whoever employed him at wba needs to go with him.

@AndyDickens1: Why do you think he should take abuse? You never had a bad day and given someone the finger. Football fans are all the same….we feel entitled to give opinions but get annoyed if our targets bite back

@ndavison1974: Very defensive aren’t they both. All brought on by themselves. Simple answer, walk away from it. They won’t they’ll become more defensive, turn it round on the fans, as intolerable abuse. Walk away with the payout, claiming to be victims of “intense abuse”. They know the script.

@martinsc77: For once I’d like to see him have the dignity to leave. For free

@agbnufc_: I have no doubt Alex Bruce would give you the finger tbh, absolute chancer and a clown. Clinging to his daddy because he’d be nowhere near a football coaching job without him.

@SPWyer: The bigger problem here is the people above Bruce.. of course Bruce doesn’t want to be failing & we all know he’s not going to just leave and us fans are really feeling it now because it’s our club and the situation we are in. It’s a bad situation for everyone 😞💛💚

@StephenLightley: We got dragged over the coals for giving him worst abuse he’s ever had, baring in mind he had 18 months with no fans due to covid. He’s a joke of a manager and I hope he never works in football after hes sacked.

@GrahamWatty: De ja Vu – The son Alex was at constant war with Newcastle fans in the media. This is what they seemingly do, play for sack and a large redundancy payout.

@kainnufc: Full blown Brucie coming in soon if he’s not sacked. He’ll start getting snidey and passive aggressive with fans and media. Does he still do that thing where he interrupts the interviewer before they’ve finished their question?

@davidnorman23: How do these managers keep getting jobs. I just don’t get it. It’s the same old faces. I feel sorry for new young managers, they have no chance of coming through. Well done for taking your opportunity to voice your opinion. Big love from the Boro Andy.

@widda16: He’ll be delighted with this footage, one step closer to his pay off. Absolutely detestable, unfit money thief who drains football clubs. No morals whatsoever. You may as well pay him now WBA cos he will never walk away with dignity and he’s taking you down.
