A statement has been issued over a number of chants were heard during the Worthing v Forest Green FA Cup tie on Monday night.
Worthing owner George Dowell condemned the chants, tweeting “Very disappointed in some of the chants I heard tonight – we’re better than that.”
The AwayBoys Fanatics of Worthing FC issued a statement addressing inappropriate songs sung in the stands during the game.
Despite the team’s effort, losing 4-1 to Forest Green, and the positive note of Hinshelwood’s return, some fans, particularly younger ones, engaged in unacceptable behaviour.
The group condemned chants targeting TNT, expressing gratitude for TNT’s support, and disapproved of political chants, making clear their policy of leaving political views outside and focusing on supporting the team.
They acknowledged that some chanting went too far and reaffirmed their commitment to creating a positive atmosphere for the team.
Appreciate the praise for our club, Adam. Can only apologise for some of what you had to deal with/hear where you were at. And cheers giving me your programme at the end!

AwayBoys Fanatics Worthing FC (@wfc_awayboys) wrote: “Despite the result the players gave it their best, all in all a great night with the highlight seeing Hinsh back in the dug out.
“Everything being said there were some things that happened that need addressing.
“As with all big games we get people joining that we wouldn’t normally and we do have a lot of youngsters who attend, who can sometimes go too far with certain behaviour and chants.
“This was the case last night. To address the points, firstly the chants about TNT, these were unacceptable.
“TNT have given our club a platform on more than one occasion and the ABF are more than grateful for all they have done and do not condone the chants and offer our thanks to TNT and their staff who did an amazing job.
“Secondly the political chants.
“As a group we understand that people with all different views attend our games and are even part of the ABF.
“We have always stated that we leave political views at the gate and we are there to back the team 100%.
“We know George Dowell was upset by some of the chanting and we can say that the main core of the ABF did not and do not condone it. We make that clear.
“There is banter and going too far and at times last night it did go too far.
“Our aim is and always will be, is to create an atmosphere and support our team.”

Worthing’s manager Adam Hinshelwood reflected on their Emirates FA Cup exit against strong opposition.
Despite the loss, he saw positives in the team’s bravery and attempts to implement their strategy, though they failed to capitalise on chances.
Worthing dominated early possession but conceded two goals, one from a poorly executed set piece and another from a counter attack. A third goal against them was pivotal.
Hinshelwood took responsibility for tactical errors, noting the team tried new approaches after limited training. He remains optimistic for the upcoming match but stressed the need to learn from the defeat, improve fitness and intensity, and show character to bounce back.
Forest Green boss Robbie Savage was delighted with his team’s 4-1 victory, praising the team’s 4-2-3-1 formation and highlighted standout performances, particularly from Mendy, whom he described as “unbelievable” for his leadership and skill.
Despite a poor goal conceded before half time, Savage felt his team was clinical and professional, creating numerous chances.
He spoke of the team’s high-energy pressing and confidence, which overwhelmed Worthing.
Looking ahead, Savage is excited about facing Luton Town and upcoming league matches, urging his players to maintain their fearless approach despite some injury and suspension concerns. He also acknowledged the loyal support of the fans.
Here’s how fans reacted on the statement issued over a number of chants heard during Worthing v Forest Green…
@TRHamptonFC:
TNT is fucking shit
Bring back Sentana sports
Worthing fans have been quality tonight 🤣🤣
@Russ4Northbrook: did you hear the song about starmer/vince…. choice words there….
@TomCarter009: I did think there were some brutal chants at points! Though best of luck for the rest of the season George, you’ve got a very professional set up at @WorthingFC , with a crowd of 3,000+ 💪👏
@aarons1308: Worthing fans with the “TNT is fucking shit”… coming through clear as day 😆😆 #WorthingFC
@Richehb2: I was right next to them and didnt clock the chant, ffs, Tnt have done a lot to give the club a platform
@stuartmrswans: Embarrassing, if only those knuckleheads knew how much money @WorthingFC were getting for being on the TV…..they’d maybe shut the f*ck up!
@Toby1099634: Happily with the r comments but the ones about TNT get a grip 🤣 It’s kids saying fire stick again ole ole. And tnt is fucking shit its comments that get made at football. The political side I can get behind but the rest is utter woke nonetheless
@Russ4Northbrook: Worthing fans last night live on TNT repeatedly chanting some choice words about starmer
@trevk37: Few choice words about TNT as well…..
@justjon87: Totally agree George. Ruined the game for me. I appreciate there is going to be bad language and banter but the chants about TNT, Starmer etc were just not needed. They should have been getting behind the team and players. Not a good look for the club.
@Georgehughes_62: It’s the youth lot , haven’t got a brain cell between them and don’t have a clue what they are saying. 🥴
@Toby_J_Benjamin: Agree George, was embarrassing for the club and town. Some of the youth need a little education and guidance on a better way forward.
@RobFinney_Dream: Sadly mate, it’s been happening for at least 18-24 months now, the bigger the occasion, the more idiots turn up.
