CLUB STATEMENT:
Spennymoor Town are delighted to announce the appointment of Graeme Lee as the Club’s new First Team Manager.
Lee has stood down from his position as boss of Marske United in order to take up his new role at The Brewery Field, where he will be joined by Assistant Manager former Spennymoor player Ian Clark.
Lee and Clark will meet the squad for the first time at training on Tuesday evening, before taking charge of the side for this weekend’s home game against Brackley Town in National League North.
Middlesbrough-born Lee will follow in the footsteps of his father Tony, who was a legend of non-league management and spent time in charge of Moors in the early-2000s.
Lee turned to coaching at the end of a long and successful playing career which saw him represent eight different clubs, celebrate three promotions and score the winner in an EFL Trophy Final.
Lee went on to work in Middlesbrough’s famed Academy for over a decade, gaining a wealth of experience as he worked his way up the ranks to be appointed as the Club’s Under-23 Coach in 2019.
However, his ambitions to prove himself in management led to him accepting an offer to take up the reins at then League Two outfit Hartlepool United in December 2021.
Lee led Pools to the semi-finals of the EFL Trophy and also masterminded a glorious run to the Fourth Round of the FA Cup where they were beaten by Premier League side Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Having left Victoria Park in May 2022, Lee retained the hunger to prove himself and he returned to the dugout as boss of Northern Premier League side Marske United last summer.
Despite battling against the backdrop of financial struggles, Lee and Clark have plotted a route out of the danger zone in recent weeks thanks to eye-catching wins over Ashton United and Guiseley.
“We are very pleased to welcome Graeme and Ian to the Football Club,” said Moors’ Managing Director, Ian Geldard.
“They both have a wealth of coaching experience and I know they’re excited by the challenge that lies ahead so we look forward to giving them all the support they need in achieving our goals.
“Having spoken to them, I know how excited they are by the challenge and how determined they are to bring success to the Club so everything about this appointment feels positive.
“We now want to see all the supporters getting right behind the new management team and the players as we look to drive real progress and make it a very happy 2024.”
