Southend want Barnet boss to replace Sol Campbell

Southend United are reportedly said to want Barnet boss Darren Currie to replace Sol Campbell who left Roots Hall on Tuesday.

The 45-year-old former Arsenal and England footballer took charge of the newly relegated Shrimpers back in October 2019, but won only four of his 23 games in charge.

TEAMtalk state in their report how the soon-to-be League Two side are looking to bring in an up-and-coming name, and Currie is emerging as their top target.

They understand they are aware of clubs in the Championship and League One, who are also looking closely at Currie and how he has got on whilst manager of Barnet, who secured a playoff place after the league table was based on points-per-game.

Darren Currie is a ex-Brighton and Ipswich winger before going into management and ended up taking charge at The Hive in 2018.

He’s said to have made a big impact at the Bees, guiding them into the National League play-offs this season whilst also taking them to the FA Cup fourth round when Brentford needed a replay to beat them.
