Southend United sack their manager

Southend United has this morning confirmed the sacking of first team manager Chris Powell following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat away to Peterborough United.

The Shrimpers had picked up just 4 points from their last 33 and now face a battle to stay in League One.

It is with much regret that the Club has this morning terminated Chris Powell’s contract.

The results over a number of weeks, eleven games without a win, has impacted all concerned and immediate changes needed to be made. The Club’s interests are paramount, but the Board are nevertheless disappointed to see Chris Powell leave.

Head of the Club’s highly successful Academy, Ricky Duncan, will take temporary charge of the first team squad.

Since learning of the sacking of Chris Powell, fans have since taken to Twitter to give their thoughts – find out what they had to say on the next page.
