Southend keeper Collin Andeng Ndi pulls off a sensational save to keep his side ahead in an away day to remember for those at the club.
A 2-1 victory secured another important three points despite difficult circumstances the Shrimpers have had to deal with for a number of reasons.
Following defeat to Bromley a few weeks back, Southend boss Kevin Maher called for change after naming just one sub for the fixture.
Southend have are still under a transfer embargo, living in hope that the takeover can finally reach the point of completion of a takeover by a consortium, which is being led by Australian businessman Justin Rees.
Well just an hour before this weekend’s game at Kidderminster, the consortium gave an update on how the takeover was going, confirming that it is poised for early 2024.
The deal was due to be completed at the beginning of November but had suffered a delay due to “legal formalities”.
Long-time controversial owner Ron Martin put the club up for sale in March, but his 25 years stay will come to an end, with fans rejoicing at the news.
Even more so this weekend after Southend’s win, Oli Coker with the opener, Ashley Hemmings grabbing an equaliser, and then Nathan Ralph nodding home from a corner on the verge of half time.
The result means Southend are 14th in the National League table with 28 points after 23 games (10 points deducted), just 8 points from the playoff places and four points above the drop zone.

SOUTHEND STATEMENT ON TAKEOVER:
The Club is pleased to announce that Ron and the Consortium have today exchanged contracts for the sale of Southend United.
The sale is conditional upon Southend Council’s approval of certain property transactions that are required to facilitate the Club staying at Roots Hall. Those terms have been agreed and we expect the Club ownership will formally transfer in early 2024.
Ron and Justin Rees will work together on operational aspects for this interim period prior to formal completion.
During the sale process the club has conducted parallel discussions with the National League and HMRC, and anticipate the transfer embargo being lifted next week.
We would like to put on record our sincere thanks to the National League for the cooperation they’ve shown throughout this period.
This has been a long process and the Club wishes to thank all concerned for their assistance in help finalise the transaction.
A special mention must also go to our incredible staff, on and off the pitch, for their resilience and perseverance in representing us all with such distinction.
To the fans, we thank you for your unwavering support, it has meant so much to us all.

Kevin Maher said news on the ownership of the club will allow there to be more focus on what his team are achieving.
He said, as per the club website: “Too often, we haven’t focused on football, but now we can put the football side first. These boys are giving absolutely everything. You see how much the fans like these players and let’s give them as much support as we can.
“It’s been draining like you wouldn’t believe but we can put that behind us now and work properly for a bright future.
“We’ve gone over 15 months with it which must be a record, so to still be competitive is a miracle.
“Nothing can be done [in terms of new signings] before the next game but we’ve got to enter into negotiations now and hopefully they can be done. We’ve got to bring in the right players, which isn’t as easy as people think.”
On the game, he was played with the attitude Blues showed to respond to Kidderminster’s equaliser. “The news came through just before kick-off which gave everyone a boost going into the game. We started the game ever so well, but we were a bit sloppy after that.
“We didn’t pass the ball well enough and it got into a bit of a second-ball game, which we weren’t brilliant at. We showed good character to come back and score from a set-piece.”
“It’s a characteristic of this team that they always keep going. It was a well-worked set piece which was nice because we work hard on them.
“I’m pleased for Ralphy because he’s a brilliant pro and does everything right. Then it was about wanting to make it more comfortable, and there were a couple of instances where we could’ve done.”
Maher said on a penalty appeal: “It’s the most blatant penalty you’ll ever see.
“It’s a big decision, and but for Collin making a couple of big saves, it does matter. Henry’s had a chance as well where he’s got to score and get the game done.
“I think he misses playing men’s football, so this’ll be important for him, and I think it’s important he comes back with the right attitude, which he will do because he’s a great lad.”
Maher on Collin Andeng Ndi: “There was one save like Gordon Banks down to his left. Credit to Dave Martin who’s worked him hard so he’s been ready to come in, and Collin’s been learning off him, which is really important.”
This is what fans had to say as the Southend keeper pulls off a sensational save to keep his side ahead in an away day to remember…
@dan_mays86: Give this the credit it deserves and unreal save. This would be talked about for weeks if was a top flight keeper. Unreal save on his return. @SUFCRootsHall 🔵🟡⚪️
@john_rimington: The save’s even more impressive when you factor in them only having 3 subs on the bench….. 😅😏
@Dan_Mason22: Show the 2 that followed n’ all 😭 fair play to @SUFCRootsHall he is one hell of a GK. All the best to them for the rest of the season and with their takeover etc 👊 thought their fans were a credit yesterday
@danfairless97: Oh my god
@shrimperjon: TBf he made three top draw saves inside 5 mins of each other. Match winning performance by him

@ChrisDavis2707: Fair play to your lot, haven’t shut up all afternoon 👏👏 I know it’s said a lot but he’s the worst referee I’ve ever seen, stone wall pen you should have had. Hope your club survives 👍👍🔴⚪️🔴⚪️
@callum_southend: how has he managed to save that then 😂😍
@LauraBlenes: Never giving up! What a welcome back Collin! and happy return Henry 🎉
This is just obscene. One of the best saves I’ve ever seen pic.twitter.com/VufONPlQzx
