Southampton and Blackburn fans get into pathetic fight with ‘one leg take down’ in middle of road

Southampton and Blackburn fans get into a rather pathetic fight with a ‘one leg take down’ in the middle of the road on Saturday.

A video surfaced following the Championship fixture, with the individuals involved throwing their fists, kicking out, and hopping about.

They do this all in front of a double decker bus, forcing it and a car to stop, before the group of fooligans then move away from the beeping vehicles, still intending to scrap.

The game itself saw Southampton put in a comfortable performance, winning 4-0 against Blackburn Rovers at St Mary’s.

Samuel Edozie and Stuart Armstrong putting the hosts in control, with Sékou Mara and Carlos Alcaraz extending the scoreline in the 97th and 99th minute to put the Saints firmly in the top four.

The first goal came just before half time, a James Bree corner floated in towards the near post, and after a couple of deflections Sam Edozie was there to poke it home.

10 minutes into the second half, Blackburn went down to ten, with Callum Brittain sent off for a second yellow card after kicking the ball away.

On the 64th minute, Armstrong then rolled in his side’s second with a neat finish from just inside the penalty area.

Southampton were awarded a penalty on 85 minutes, but Alcaraz missed from the spot.

A trademark Ryan Fraser assist found Sékou Mara at the back post who slides into an empty net on 97 minutes before Alcaraz made up for that miss by scoring on 99 minutes.

The result means that Southampton sit 4th in the table, with 42 points (level with 3rd place Leeds) after 22 games played. They are both 10 points behind 2nd place Ipswich. Blackburn meanwhile are 11th with 31 points from same games played.

“I’m really delighted the scoreline reflects the performance,” said Saints manager Russell Martin. “Even at 11vs11 I thought the performance was really dominant against a team who usually like to have a lot of the ball.

“When we’ve watched them they’ve been outstanding, especially away from home, so we turned the game. I’m pretty sure that wasn’t their approach to come and defend low and when they tried to play we were relentless in trying to get the ball back and winning it back high.

“We should have scored before we did, I’m really pleased with the timing of that goal. We had that against Huddersfield too. I said to the players, it’s your decision, if you want to be relentless it could be a really good afternoon because you have the game exactly where you want it, through being intense.

“Obviously, they have a man sent off but I thought we were so in control before that and looked really likely to score again. Then it’s about making the most of your numerical advantage and I thought we did. It’s really easy at that point to get a bit loose and a bit sloppy but I thought the players were really fantastic.”

Blackburn boss Jon Dahl Tomasson said: “It was a tough afternoon, a disappointing day.

“We knew it would be difficult against a squad that is playing very well and unbeaten in the last 12 or 13 games.

“I actually thought that we were quite solid in the first half and didn’t give a lot away.

“We didn’t give one shot away that would have been dangerous and we should have done better from the transition moments we had. We were not good enough on the ball, we weren’t at our normal level.

“We knew the space and could have played through them, but the timing of the goal was a tough one just before half time. In the second half, at 1-0, you’re in the game, but the game is over after the second yellow card.

“Callum’s apologised in the dressing room for that. The whole second half was a tough journey but we can’t complain about the work rate from the lads.

“They did their best. The lads tried, we had a moment with Harry [Leonard]’s shot, but playing against a Premier League side, 10 against 11, losing 4-0, it doesn’t look that great,” he added.

“I think 2-0 would have been better, but we conceded two goals late on in the nine minutes extra, which I thought was unnecessary.”
