A sold out attendance turns out for Macclesfield’s first ever league game of the North West Counties Football League Premier Division.
The Silkmen are back in English football with a bang as they went on to grab their first victory, winning 1-0 against Burscough at Moss Rose (aka leasing.com stadium).
Nine months after reforming, Macclesfield now find themselves at Step 5 of the Non-League pyramid, having been kicked out of the National League last autumn when the old club was wound up in the High Court.
The support that we received yesterday was absolutely phenomenal.

Fantastically, over 1,000 season tickets have been sold, with their ground been given a facelift and expectation is high as they look to climb the leagues back to where they belong.
Now it’s up to club legend Danny Whitaker to lead them as manager, starting at home to Burscough, this is how the game played out…
1’ | The Silkmen fans are in fine voice already, as Macc dominate the early possession.
2’ | Obeng’s cross from the right is glanced wide by Dwyer.
5’ | Arnasalam’s low cross from the right is fired towards the far post by Whitaker, yet it travels inches wide.
9’ | Arnasalam is proving to be the danger man at present. The visitors quite simply can’t contain him in the early stages.
11’ | Arnasalam’s teasing corner from the right is headed wide by Mendy.
16’ | GOAL!!!!!!! Dwyer broke free down the right before laying the ball off for Arnasalam who confidently stroked the ball home.
20’ | Macc continue to dominate, as they look for a second goal. Dwyer is the latest to test the visiting ‘keeper.
24’ | Dwyer flashes the ball across the face of goal, before it evades the advancing Clare.
28’ | Arnasalam fires marginally wide of the near post.
32’ | Ben Pierce has looked commanding in dealing with a flurry of recent crosses, yet he hasn’t been overly tested as yet.
35’ | Mendy’s low drive from distance is unconvincingly turned around the post by Waugh.
36’ | Daniels runs clean through on goal, yet could only direct the ball wide of Pierce’s far post.
40’ | A well-worked Burscough move is cleared off the line by Obeng.
45’ | Macc lead at the interval through Leon Arnasalam’s 16th minute strike.
HALF-TIME: Silkmen 1 v 0 Burscough
50’ | Both sides have enjoyed a fair amount of possession during the opening exchanges of the second half.
No clear chances as yet though.
55’ | Leon Arnasalam is replaced by Kieran Curtis.
58’ | Clare holds the ball up well, before turning and firing the ball wide of Waugh’s near post.
65’ | Christiansen fires a speculative effort over Pierce’s bar, as the visitors commit more men forward.
67’ | Fleming tenaciously wins the ball back, before firing it across the six-yard line.
69’ | Fleming’s cross into the area is inches away from connecting with Clare’s head at the near post.
74’ | Aaron Dwyer is shown the yellow card, before Pierce collects a high ball with ease.
75’ | Dwyer heads Curtis’ cross from the right straight at Waugh, as the game starts to become stretched.
79’ | End to end stuff now, yet both ‘keepers have not been unduly troubled as yet.
82’ | Clare storms into the box, before curling the ball just over the far upright.
88’ | Mendy fired over from 25-yards out as the game reaches its final stages.
90’ | Leon Arnasalam’s 16th minute strike proves decisive, as Macclesfield FC secure a debut victory against Burscough.
FULL TIME : Silkmen 1 v 0 Burscough
As mentioned, a sold out attendance of 2,018 turns out for Macclesfield’s first ever league game, the biggest at step 5 of non league with the second highest being 491 at Consett v Seaham Red Star in the Northern League.
