Sky baffle with ‘robbed’ comment on Olise free kick goal; Casemiro bemused by selfie moment

Sky Sports baffle fans over a ‘robbed’ comment made on that Michael Olise free kick goal, while Casemiro was bemused by a selfie moment.

Crystal Palace’s stoppage-time free kick by Michael Olise prevented Manchester United from going second in the Premier League.

United looked set to win the sixth consecutive league game thanks to Bruno Fernandes’ goal just before the break.

But Olise got a late equaliser with his dramatic curling set-piece that crashed in off the underside bar in the 91st minute.

David de Gea had previously kept Palace at bay, with the United goalkeeper making excellent saves from Guehi and Edouard, however Olise’s remarkable effort was too much for him to do as United missed the chance to reduce the gap to Arsenal by six points.

United was further frustrated by Casemiro’s fifth booking of the season. This means that the crucial midfielder will be suspended from Sunday’s match with Arsenal live on Sky Sports.

Sky Sports caused a stir in the comment section on Twitter, writing in their post for the Olise goal: “Michael Olise has just ROBBED Man Utd of all three points with an unreal free-kick.”

Fans weren’t happy with the use of the word ‘robbed’, saying Man Utd really weren’t that good and that Palace were the better side that deserved at least a point from the game that played out.

Player ratings

Subs: Eze (7), Ayew( (6), Schlupp (6), Milivojevic (6).

Man Utd: De Gea (8), Wan-Bissaka (8), Varane (7), Martinez (7), Shaw (7), Casemiro (7), Eriksen (7), Fernandes (8), Antony (6), Rashford (6), Weghorst (7).

Subs: Garnacho (6), McTominay (6), Fred (6).

Player of the match: Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag to BBC Sport: “We dropped two points. When you’re winning with two minutes to go…

“You [Palace] don’t create anything except one which was a corner and this one was a free-kick from far. You don’t expect to drop points. We have to invest more to get that second goal and then not be in that situation that a lucky moment costs you two points.

“We were 1-0 up. In the second half we had a lot of space to kill them and go for the second. I never saw we really went for the second goal.

“It’s difficult to say [why]. I have to criticise my team. Go for the second. Bruno and Rashy on the wings, Garnacho, a lot of creativity, speed and power, and McTominay with penetration behind.

“From my perspective [they should have had a penalty] but VAR and the referee make the decision. We have to accept it.”

On Casemiro’s yellow card and suspension: “He’s a really important player for us and a reason we’re in this position. But last time we beat Arsenal without Casemiro. We need to do again.

“We’re winning, controlling the game and an unlucky moment. We don’t have time to react. We have to take that and move on and make the best plan for Arsenal.”

Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “It feels like a win because we are happy with not losing the game. It was tough. Important not to concede the second goal and to stay strong in the second half. We built the momentum and belief and we got rewarded with Michael’s free kick.

“We wanted to have the ball and have possession but we couldn’t because of Man United’s quality. We showed discipline and not conceding that second goal was important. We believed and then came the free kick.

On Michael Olise’s free-kick: “Haven’t seen that in training at all! But today he had that belief and confidence and was good for him especially after his performance.”

“When you look at the performances against two teams [Chelsea and Manchester United] who are on a different level, competing for Champions League, if we keep that competitiveness, it will serve us well.

“We look deeper than the result. Our performances have been positive and we want to build from that. You have ups and downs when you are building but it is important for me and the club to stay level headed because it is a process.

“Really pleased with Chris Richards’ performance, he showed that he can compete with our centre backs to play more often. Will Hughes was also important today. It is good to keep the whole squad happy and part of everything.

On Joachim Anderson’s injury: “It will be something between a week to 10 days. He is a really important player for us. But I was impressed with Chris’s performance and really happy that we have players who can compete in this position.”

Fans reacted as Sky baffle with that ‘robbed’ comment on the Michael Olise free kick goal while Casemiro was left bemused by that on-pitch selfie moment…

@whickhamrobbie: Explain robbed. How dare teams take points from the sky golden boys .

@The_PPL: What a completely normal and unbiased way to describe it

@i50448067: Robbed? They were not that good. De gea with 2 very good saves. Man Utd robbed Crystal Palace

@cpfc_jw19: Hardly robbed when United had one clear cut chance! Awful Ref as should have had 2 sent off! If it wasn’t for De Gea we win that … UP THE PALACE

@bob87722426: Only robbed because it’s manure right? sure they wouldn’t have said that if manure did it to someone else, they would have said it was spectacular and deserved.

@Zohar_Returns: Robbed???!!! Palace had 5 shots on target to United’s 4? Utd keeper keeping them in the game. Tell me how they were robbed?

@screwloose88x1: ROBBED? The game was pretty even, a few amazing save by De Gea aswell. Palace deserved atleast a draw.

@neiltwilliams: Robbed? De Gea made 2 top saves to keep ManUre in it. Guaita hardly had to make a save!

@ghostwm12: Didn’t rob anything, palace had the better chances, United’s worst performance in a while. If you just keep kicking the ball away at this level you will get punished, Bruno and Erikson far too sloppy with the ball

@twit_uk: Michael Ollise got palace the point they deserved. There. Fixed it for you.

@joelintoast: Robbed is an interesting word. De Gea pulled off two worldies. It was generally a game lacking in quality where neither side really deserved to win.

@NDDuffy: Sky Sports showing once again who they support…

@JAMES77458423: Robbed is what the officials did at Old Trafford on Saturday

@J_CPFC565: @SkySportsPL “Robbed”, so so bias toward United, bias commentary and everything. We did not rob anything, point was more than deserved

@Kieran_B_Sport: Wouldn’t say robbed. United took a chance by trying to coast to a 1-0 win.

@JoeSmit40807159: ROBBED? De gea saved them at least twice and Utd created nothing other than the one goal. Talk about impartiality Sky

@edmonds_mark: Robbed !! G Nev writing your tweets now.

@stephenlwright: Robbed? The sooner Sky disappears, the better.

@fivestarjane: Massively disrespectful. Wonder if you actually watched the game!

@Hughesy_B: Robbed?….Get in the bin

@beattorgonzalo: Robbed? Sky sports going back to being MUTV

@cb1ishere: Robbed? Didn’t feel like robbery from where I was standing at Selhurst 🤣 fully deserved!
