Six upsets produced in the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round – updated ball numbers

It was the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round this weekend and amazingly we’ve seen six upsets produced by clubs against teams a higher level than themselves.

National League clubs entered at this stage with a fair few of them going through, though others failed to get themselves into the hat for the First Round Proper draw.

Dagenham & Redbridge were knocked out after losing 2-1 away to Carshalton Athletic. Bobby Price put the ball into the back of the net on the 51st minute. Reece Grant headed in from a cross to level the score 15 minutes later. Ricky Korboa however sent the home fans wild with an 85th minute winner.

The only other National League club to lose to a side lower down the non league pyramid was Stockport County as they fell to a 2-0 defeat in front of the TV cameras at York City. A goal from Alex Kempster and a thumping strike from Sean Newton helped the Minstermen reach the first round for the second year in a row.

Level 7 side Nantwich Town knocked out King’s Lynn Town from the National League North thanks to Troy Bourne with the only goal of the game.

The joint-lowest ranked club left in the competition, Chichester City (level 8), managed to beat Bowers & Pitsea to make their first appearance in the first round since 1960. Here they are celebrating at the services…

Maldon & Tiptree also of Level 8 beat Royston Town 3-1. A Braithwait own goal broke the deadlock before Danny Parish found the away side’s second, Ben Martin got what ended up being a consolation for Royston as Jorome Slew got his side’s third. The draw for the next round will now be held at Maldon & Tiptree.

Kingstonian also caused an upset by beating Dartford 3-2. The K’s found themselves three up after 40 minutes when Reece Hall (9′), Louie Theophanous (21′) and a Tom Kavanagh penalty hit the back of the net. Andy Pugh got one back for the Darts in the 42nd minute, before Daniel McQueen made it a tense finish by scoring with 20 minutes to go.
