Shrewsbury social media admin takes to hilarious mock Derby County fan with cheeky tweet

The Shrewsbury Town social media admin takes to hilarious mock a Derby County fan with a cheeky tweet after Salop picked up a win.

After the final whistle, Shrewsbury couldn’t help but laugh, responding to a post that had been sent to them about not postponing their game.

Derby fan ‘JJ (aka @jimbobram92)’ wrote: “You better not call the game off tomorrow with you Sunday league pitch @shrewsburytown #Salop.”

To which Shrewsbury wrote alongside a photo of the 1-0 scoreline: “Bet you wish it had been called off now, mate 😉”

The only goal of the match came with Hourihane listed as scoring an own goal, but many argue that the ball came off Bayliss, following a cross from Taylor Perry in a day to forget for the Rams, who now sit 11th in the League One table with 18 points from 12 games played and after four points from the playoffs.

Just before the break, referee Martin Woods handed Shrewsbury a spot kick after Curtis Nelson brought down Max Mata, up stepped Tom Bayliss, who sent the ball over the bar.

Then in the 56th minute, Hourihane was the last player to get contact with the ball that went on to hit the back of the net, sending the home fans happy.

Derby County Head Coach Paul Warne said: “I’m disappointed. I though we weren’t aggressive enough in the first half and rode our luck when they missed the penalty. In the second half they got their goal and when we made three changes I felt they all had a positive effect. We created enough chances to maybe win comfortably – but we didn’t take them.

“There wasn’t loads wrong in our performance but we created enough chances to win and we didn’t even take any to even get a point. Sometimes away from home you’ve just got to take your point and your medicine. It feels like we could have been out there still now and we wouldn’t have scored.

“I think today’s game is a microcosm of our season, really. Good teams find a way to win even when they aren’t playing great – and I don’t think we played bad today – but we didn’t find a way to score.

“I don’t think the lads lack confidence but we have to take chances if we want to win a game and we can’t ask our goalkeeper to bail us out in every game. Everyone has a responsibility but not all of our chances fell to our strikers today and it’s just disappointing. We are lacking that cutting-edge to our play.

“There were parts of our play today that were good, very good at times.

“We do have a game on Tuesday against Exeter at Pride Park, so I’m not going to rip the group open. The bench is the strongest it has ever been and the lads that came on should be able change the game and they did.

“I could be doing this interview and we’d have scored in the 75th and the 89th minute and we’d be saying what a great game we played.

“We have to do better though and the longer the game goes on and we don’t score, things become difficult.

“We came here with the intention to win and the lads will lick the wounds, like I will tonight, and we’ll hopefully have a performance on Tuesday tonight that sees everyone go home happy.

“We have to be more aggressive and we have to be more ruthless. It needs to change because we are losing points and dropping points unnecessarily. Their goalkeeper got their Man-of-the-Match award today, which seems to happen a lot against us, but we need that to change because we are dropping points when our performances possibly deserve more.”

Shrewsbury boss Matt Taylor said: “The emotion that runs through your body when you are on the touchline is indescribable at times.

“It’s indescribable because that win there means so much to us.

“I believe Derby are one of the favourites this season with the players they have at their disposal.

“What we have done today is win a game of football against them that should have been more convening.

“We missed a penalty. We had numerous chances to put ourselves in a better position. But what an amazing feeling.

“The connection with the fans is building. It was the biggest crowd of the season. To be able to go and share that moment with them was fantastic.

“The players are the ones who carry out the instructions we give them. They were immense today.

“What a performance. What a result. I’m really, really, happy.

“Every time I come and talk to you I try and keep my disappointment or my happiness and pride in check – I don’t want to do that today.

“The players there have given everything to a man. And they have shared that performance with our supporters, at home, against one of the biggest teams in the league.

“The only disappointing thing, and I’ve said this to the players, is that they can’t celebrate tonight because we have got another massive game on Tuesday.

“But that is seven points out of three games.

“This group, and I’ve always said it, will take time. It will take time for us to get into a position where everyone has a clear and concise understanding of what is required.

“Today, what you saw was a group of men who gave everything for that Shrewsbury Town badge.

“I can’t ask anymore. Then you couple that with the quality they have.

“I’m overjoyed for Tom Bayliss that he’s scored. He’s just told me it’s gone down as an own goal. I think he is slightly aggrieved by that.

“But what a massive three points. What a win. Now we let the players enjoy it, sensibly, this evening.

“They have got a day off tomorrow and then we report Monday to get ready again because football is relentless.

“But from my perspective, I’m just really, really, pleased. It’s more than that – I’m exceedingly happy we’ve got the three points today.”
