Social media users were left shocked over the weekend after learning that Cheltenham Town fan had his mobile phone stolen by one of his own team’s supporters.
The incident took place at Salford City’s the Peninsula Stadium on Saturday afternoon when the Robins got their second goal.
Ryan Broom got both goals to take Cheltenham to the dizzy heights of 6th in the League Two table, a much better position to be in compared to their finishing place of 16th, which was highest they got to for the whole of last season.
Will Edden tweeted about witnessing what happened, he said: “What a result that was, but cannot believe what I’ve witnessed today. A CTFC fan stood behind my mate pickpocketed his phone when we got our second goal.
“Luckily managed to get it back. Stealing off your own fans… or anyone for that matter… embarrassing.
“Worth adding, considering the stick we aim at many stewards, that the @SalfordCityFC stewards were brilliant today ??”
He added: “Never seen anything like it in 20 odd years of going to games. No harm done in the end luckily, but a shame that there are people like that about.”
According to Gloucestershire Live, Will added that the alleged thief was also involved in a confrontation with an elderly man and was ejected from the ground.
There is now hope that the club will ban the culprit from home and away matches.
