Sheffield Wednesday’s financial turmoil continues as owner Dejphon Chansiri asks for loans to help pay the club’s outstanding wages.
The Star reported on the 2nd of June that Chansiri seeking funds from business associates to cover May salaries for club employees.
Some players, football staff, and lower-paid non-football staff have not received full payments, with many non-football staff receiving only £700.
Emergency funding has been offered to those in financial hardship, but as of Monday lunchtime, the payment issues remain unresolved.
This follows a similar issue in March, with payments eventually made on April 7. The club risks a three-window registration embargo if it breaches the EFL’s 30-day payment rule.

BBC Radio Sheffield’s Rob Staton tweeted: “Understand as of this morning, there are non-football staff at Sheffield Wednesday who are still yet to receive their wages in full for May.”
In reply to Alex, he added: “A reminder, as reported excellently by Alex on Friday:
‘Impacted individuals have been told that the club anticipates it will be able to pay them in full ‘during the course of this Monday’.
“Was this on the proviso that someone was prepared to help out? If so, why was that anticipated?”
On May 30th, a clip was posted of Rob Staton. He said on the current situation: “Fans are gonna be really concerned here because this is happening again so soon after it happened in March.
“Fans are gonna be worried about the financial stability of the football club at this point.
“It’s pretty clear that the club can’t go on facing issues like this even if it’s just delays rather than, you know, an inability in totality to pay.
“You know, they can’t keep delaying things like they have been in March and now.
“And even if this gets paid in the coming days, Andy, there are certainly things that are standing out to me that I think are worth raising here tonight.
“The first one is, this is the summer now. This is when players sign for football clubs and they join new clubs who are out of contract.
“What player wouldn’t second guest join in Sheffield Wednesday right now?
“If you are a player who is out of contract, why would you choose Sheffield Wednesday over a rival team if the financial offering was was the same?
“Because of what has been happening, with the delay of of payment and salaries.
“Secondly, if you knew this was a possibility that this was gonna be an issue for you at the end of this month, why wouldn’t the club negotiate a settlement on Danny Rohl’s release clause?
“Because clubs have been interested in the manager.
“And based on people we’ve talked to, the release clause has been prohibitive, that it’s just been too much, that there’s not been negotiation there.
“I don’t understand why that has not been negotiated to get some money in to avoid stuff like this happening.
“So and we’ve not we don’t have the ability to also ask the chairman about that, for his sort of response, and he may well have a justifiable response for that, but we don’t have the opportunity to ask him about it.
“So there are two big questions that I think come up.
“And a lot of fans are just sort of left here, Andy, thinking, a lot of them use the term enough is enough.
“I think they just want things to be normal at their football club.
“And right now, it’s been sort of six months of drama for Sheffield Wednesday going all the way back to the January transfer window just before that.
“I think people have had enough.
“I think they’ve they have well and truly come to the end of their tether.
“They want answers.
“And given there have been reports of bids from consortium that have been reported in the media recently, I think many will be thinking it’s time for somebody else to have a go.”
🗣️ “I think people have had enough. I think they’ve well and truly come to the end of their tether. I think many will be thinking it’s time for someone else to have a go.”

Sheffield Wednesday players and staff receive letter with wages unpaid again
This is what fans are saying as Sheffield Wednesday’s financial turmoil continues after Chansiri asks for loans to help pay wages…
@Jay_Blogs: This is typical of someone that doesn’t forward plan. A very concerning, reactionary way to run a football club. Regardless of what happens in the next few hours, the @EFL need to get more involved.
@tommyuto: Fucking hell, it really is different this time
@Theowls94: What an embarrassment.
@cjdecorators: I’ve got a crazy idea but it might just work. Maybe try accepting a takeover bid ???
@Walker2Lewis: And this Guy turned a bid down to resolve all these problems 🤔😂 honestly this really worries me for the future of our club. makes me sick to the stomach thinking that something that has been apart of my Family for years could literally disappear #swfc
@RussAmos333: The net is closing in. No more excuses, no more loopholes. Your time is up! #swfc
@dan_lill: Complete and utter unsustainable madness. If this isn’t the beginning of the end for him we are in for some dark days. DC should be ashamed of himself that it’s come to this #swfc
@carterswfcok: If this isn’t enough to make him realise he can’t do it anymore then I really don’t know what is
@CraigGamb: Pretty much Bankrupt and turns down £75m bid. The man is fucking clueless.. Just do one ya prick! #swfc
@Owen_wawaw_s6: @EFL the owner blatantly can’t afford to run the club, do something
@paulsimpson986: It’s like having a fancy house but can’t pay the gas and electric- just sell the house
@cwswfc1867: “Business associates” That means his dad lending him some pocket money
@NickNwarhurst: Tells a story when his own family are not lending him the cash
@Cuttsy1982: We will end up playing in last seasons kits at this rate, if we have a team
@CeeJayMilner: Just remember, this is the same bloke who is turning down “derisory” offers to buy the club
@MrPaulPashley: Clearly trying to hang onto the club at everyone else’s cost including the club!! Sell it NOW!
@maycock_mark: Even if it come good and they get paid witch I think every Wednesday fan hopes for this will soon happen again and again
@Danworth2509: Obviously lots of issues with this but if he’s paid people by tonight, he’ll feel like he’s done the right thing. But what happens at the end of this month? No income from match day currently, no player sales! He needs to cut his losses and let someone else have a go #swfc
@diamondattack12: What an embarrassing man, honestly how can you get to this point and still have no interest in selling up?
@Gingeee_SWFC: No money for wages proceeds to turn down an offer for the club! The man is a complete bellend who is toying with the club! The EFL need to step in now and punish him not the club and its fans
@Jamie27615478: This is the outcome of one man with no plan. One man who wants to run everything. He’s ran us into ground in last ten years. Damaged the clubs reputation so many times and now he wants people to help him? The man is deluded! Sell up
