Sheffield Wednesday players and staff members receive a letter with wages going unpaid again, the second delay in three months.
There was a similar issue in March, but this latest one puts the club at risk of a three-transfer-window embargo from the EFL if the 30-day payment default period is reached.
The club has sent a letter to players and staff affected, assuring them that wages should be paid on Monday. The exact timing will dictate as to whether the club is indeed prevented from paying transfer or loan fees for the next three windows.
I know that #SWFC fans are desperate for news, but the reality is that right now there are no new contracts signed, there are no new signings, or friendlies finalised, or details on the coaching staff contracts.
Feels like a state of limbo, we can’t report what isn’t happening.

The full situation with #SWFC and unpaid wages and a potential three-window transfer ban as we know it… Has taken a while to get the full picture.
Some players have been paid, other players and staff haven’t. Payment has to be done in full before Monday. https://t.co/BItfIQQS8a

There appears to be a high chance that #SWFC do hit the 30 days of persistent defaults over the last 12 months, and if they do they’ll get a three-window ban…
Even if they don’t, which – it’s worth adding – is still possible, another late payment is unacceptable. Shambles.

One of the toughest things, from a journalist perspective, regarding this #SWFC farce is that it’s practically unprecedented – there’s no reference point.
A club spending seven-figure amounts on training ground improvements but not paying wages… None of it makes sense.

#SWFC’s players were sent a letter from the club saying that they ‘anticipate outstanding payments will be made in full during the course of this Monday’ – similar to the one sent to staff.
An anxious wait is on for everyone now. https://t.co/LJ23yqYup9

🚨Further to this afternoon’s news, gather some non-football staff at Wednesday have been paid just £700 of their monthly salary.
In correspondence seen by The Star, staff told to expect full payment Monday. ‘Emergency funding’ in place.

Just a note on the embargo situation, because of the size of #SWFC’s squad currently, as per the EFL’s rules they would currently only be allowed to sign two players…
If Bannan, Paterson and Famewo extend, they can’t sign any. https://t.co/Tyaxr3yGBa pic.twitter.com/IXhg4yvQLT

“We anticipate outstanding payments will be made in full during the course of this Monday and sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused,” the letter reads, as per Sheffield Star.
“We understand that such delays create financial pressure and want to reassure our staff that the club is here to support you and ensure that no one suffers any financial hardship… If you are facing any immediate financial difficulties as a result of this delay, please don’t hesitate to contact your Line Manager or Department Head, who will aid the access of emergency funding we have in place.”
Sheffield Wednesday, finished 12th in the Championship under manager Danny Rohl, but face a turbulent summer because of owner Dejphon Chansiri.
Fan protests have intensified following a controversial fans’ forum in January and unpaid wages in March.
Supporters are now urging EFL intervention, fearing financial mismanagement similar to Reading’s troubles.
Additionally, Chansiri rejected two takeover bids from a US-based consortium, including professional athletes, increasing fan unrest.
🗣️ “I think people have had enough. I think they’ve well and truly come to the end of their tether. I think many will be thinking it’s time for someone else to have a go.”

Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Trust (@SWFCTrust) said: “The Sheffield Wednesday Supporters Trust is once again appalled to hear reports that employees of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club, have reportedly not been paid again.
“If these reports are accurate, this is simply unacceptable.
“We demand that the club immediately provides a clear and transparent explanation of the situation. Silence and ambiguity are no longer tolerable.
“We reiterate our firm belief that Dejphon Chansiri must sell the club without further delay. His continued ownership is proving catastrophic for Sheffield Wednesday and everyone connected with it.
“To address these serious concerns, we will be hosting a fans forum 11th June at 7pm at Wadsley Bridge Club. Full details of this important event will be announced shortly.

This is how fans reacted as Sheffield Wednesday players and staff a receive letter with wages unpaid again…
@RussAmos333:
None of this will ever make sense to us!
Why hold onto something you clearly can’t afford?
Your mistakes have caught up with you and life comes at you hard!
Your character is now being fully exposed.
#swfc
@swfcscout: What a sad state of affairs down at S6. All because of 1 man. “Do you own a business”. Mr Chansiri, you may currently own the business but you have absolutely no clue on how to run it! Do the honourable thing and stand aside for people with fresh capital and a solid plan.
@EmilyFensterFen: Us spaffing money on brand new pitches whilst we are potentially about to enter a three window transfer ban is like getting a new paint job for a car we know has a broken engine and we know we don’t have the money to get a new one #swfc
@fittall1987: It’s mental. How can the club ever move forward if we don’t even have an emergency pot in the bank to cover wages? He doesn’t sell players. Our best hope of income is manager compo. We’ll never invest internally. Treading water until, eventually, fatigue sets in and we go under
@kingmdk1983: Never felt so fed up about #swfc in all the years I’ve supported them. Hardly any players, a manager who wants out, a bell end who won’t fuck off but can’t afford to do the basics, ridiculous prices for tickets, merchandise etc. #chansirigetoutofourclub
@Lasty1Richard: Clubs a laughing stock across the uk, how is it so hard to have the money available in time for pay day. If this happened to any where else, staff would stop working.
@past_sunderland: At what point do the EFL step in and prevent this from happening? Another club being ruined because they arent strong enough with their testing for who can run a club. Reading nearly died, Bury did. Are these next? Shocking. #SAFC #SWFC #EFL
@Lizrickett: Another totally normal day. Nice to know with Reading sold we now officially have the worst owner in the EFL. Who won’t sell despite not being able to pay the bills on time. No point in speculating why he does what he does. There is no logic here #swfc
@RussellPSykes: What kind of ‘business man’ doesn’t have an emergency fund for cash flow issues? – a terrible one. It is completely unacceptable and enough is enough. Not paying employees of the Club is absolutely disgraceful. I am not setting foot in that stadium until he’s gone
“I once turned down a significant bid for the football club that I own, only to then pay the staff just £700 of their monthly salary 3 days later, meaning a real possibility of entering a 3 transfer window embargo, thus reducing the club’s value significantly”#swfc #chansiriout pic.twitter.com/EbaJBQS0JB
