Sheffield Wednesday fans slam cost of 24/25 season ticket prices despite threat of relegation

Sheffield Wednesday fans slam the cost of 24/25 season ticket prices despite the threat of relegation back to League One.

The Owls currently sit 23rd in the Championship table with 22 points from 28 games played, and are six points from safety with a game in hand over a few sides above them.

Sheffield Wednesday are operating a phased approach to season ticket sales, with prices discounted for early buyers.

An adult south stand ticket purchased in phase three will cost £720 which is £90 more than in phase one, and £135 more than this season, which is the club’s first campaign in the Championship since 2020/21.

The cheapest adult season ticket, in the Kop stand, is set at £460 in phase one sales – £65 more than last summer’s initial price. But with relegation a threat, fans will be less inclined to buy early despite the discounts.

CLUB STATEMENT:

The Owls can confirm that the first phase of Season Ticket sales for the 2024/25 campaign is now open.

The offers available will, as always, give supporters the opportunity to purchase the cheapest priced Season Ticket for next term.

Prices begin from £20 per game on the Kop, while our Junior under 11s can see every match at Hillsborough for just £1 in the Grandstand Family Area if purchased during the first phase, available for a 10-day period until Wednesday 7 February before an increase in price for phase two the following day.

The first three phases are illustrated below:

PayPal

We are delighted to offer supporters a new card payment option through online market leader PayPal, considered one of the safest ways to make transactions online. All PayPal transactions are protected by advanced data encryption, with the very latest available technology geared towards the prevention of fraudulent activities.

The PayPal option is only available online and debit/credit card payments for Season Tickets cannot be made by telephone or at the Ticket Office.

Supporters will be able to check out using their existing PayPal log-in details, or can create an account HERE giving more flexibility and security with payments. Alternatively, checkout as a guest.

PayPal will also be available for home match tickets and later in the year and we intend to roll out to the online retail side of the club via the Sheffield Wednesday Online Shop.

6/10 month finance option

We have once again joined forces with V12 Retail Finance to give supporters the option to spread the cost over six or 10 months* for your Season Ticket.

This option is only available online (applications cannot be made at the Ticket Office) and the process of application, relevant checks and signing of documents must be completed at the time of purchase.

Supporters should note there is a time limit to complete the application once it has started and are advised the process must be complete within the designated timescale or the application will be cancelled.

Once the application and a decision has been made, click the link to return to the ticketing site to complete the transaction, failure to do so will mean cancellation of the agreement.

The first payment, inclusive of the arrangement fee, will be collected approximately 30 days after the application, around mid-to-late February.

Owls MasterCard

Supporters who hold an Owls MasterCard are advised to wait and not make their purchase just yet as we finalise the requirements with PayPal to ensure the option remains.

Once this process is complete, fans will be able to benefit from nine-month 0% interest. We will confirm this option when available.

As mentioned, Sheffield Wednesday fans hit out at 24/25 season tickets despite threat of League One relegation, this is how Twitter users reacted…

@SeedsRob1984: No renewal from me fuck that

@The5herriff: £640 for me and my lad on the Kop… for League 1 football. An increase of £85. And for what? A ground that’s falling apart. Non existent facilities. Shambles of a squad. Manager more than likely to leave at the end of the season. Owner that gaslights and abuses fans. I’m out.

@SwfcGurny: This is our deadline day transfer funds. When we don’t sell loads it will no doubt be our fault again.

@Barxthethird: Just 840 quid for me and my lad 😂😂 23rd in CH signing free transfers and likely be for league 1 😵‍💫😵‍💫

@LukeLaister: Honest question.. How can you announce season tickets at a price increase considering we don’t know what league we will be in… crazy decision.

@__rjm:
Where is the justification in an £85 price increase?
– We aren’t spending money on players
– Facilities are woeful with low probability of investment
– High probability of being in League One
– Already the 2nd highest season price in the Champ
It’s absolute daylight robbery.

@Jim1867:
Facing relegation right in the face.
£65 more on the kop than this phase last year.
£85 more on the North.
£95 more on the South.
You’re an absolute fucking disgrace Wednesday.

@apnelhams3: Sad that it’s come to it after having a season ticket for 20 years but it’s unjustifiable now, especially considering we could be in the 3rd tier.

@JamesKay89:
Wow 🤯
Timing ❌
Prices ❌
Club Stability ❌
Idea of next seasons division ❌
This is an absolute masterstroke on igniting a fan base to protest!
#SWFC

@willcoxj_: That is horrendous prices- the fact they’re at risk of relegation as well. Those prices in league one would be a disgrace

@james94swfc:
League one football
A piss poor squad
Crumbling facilities
No investment
And a week to find nearly £600 for that privilege?
This will be the first time in over 20 years I’ve not had a season ticket, he just treats us with contempt

@jshirtliff: Any chance of a relegation clause like in player contracts? £630 for League One football isn’t really on is it 😐

@AndyPH24: £100 increase, I’m already out until Chansiri is gone but wow! The match day prices next year for League 1 are gonna be funny too.

@swfccom: DC is so greedy

@reorgegoberts: £630 to see us play against the likes of Fleetwood and Stockport 🤣🤣

@ncalow: Adult ticket in Grandstand or North is a 17.5% increase on last years 1st phase. Enough is enough, can’t justify this for what will almost certainly be 3rd tier football

@Brotonswfc:
Want the best players
Pay the highest prices…
Wheres the best players
