Sheffield Wednesday fans labelled ’embarrassing’ for pyro on train after Cardiff game

Sheffield Wednesday fans have been labelled ’embarrassing’ for setting on pyro on a train after the game against Cardiff City.

The Championship fixture ended in a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon, but an incident involving Sheffield Wednesday supporters has drawn attention.

A fan was filmed setting off a pyrotechnic device on a public train after the game, prompting criticism from various quarters.

This incident aligns with broader concerns about pyrotechnics in football, as similar events have led to arrests and safety crackdowns elsewhere, such as in Scottish football earlier this season.

The game itself saw Isaak Davies net his first goal at Cardiff City Stadium since January 2022.

Cardiff dominated the first half and could have scored a few more if they did waste their chances to extend their advantage.

That prove costly as Wednesday then equalised as Michael Ihiekwe headed in from Barry Bannan’s corner.

The result meant that, the Bluebirds extend the gap between themselves and the Championship relegation zone to two points, but Derby could close it when they play their game in hand at home to Preston North End on Wednesday.

For Sheffield Wednesday, they stay 12th in the table, five points adrift of the play-off spots.

Cardiff manager Omer Riza, per BBC Sport:

“First half I thought we played well. The first 10 minutes it was cagey but after that we were dominant, created opportunities, scored a goal and had a couple more opportunities as well. It was a very good first half.

“The front four were energetic, caused problems and we had good stability behind the ball. We were hoping for more in the second half. But it just seems to be an element of a mental thing with the boys.

“They didn’t apply enough pressure in the second half. They sat and allowed them to have a bit more time in the midfield areas, which put us on the back foot, which was disappointing. A frustrating one overall.”

Sheffield Wednesday Danny Rohl:

“I think this result was fair for both teams. At this stage of the season it’s not an easy game and in the first half we felt that, playing against a team fighting for their life to stay in the league.

“I saw a team in the second half on the front foot, creating pressure and moments. It was exactly the game I expected. A team in Cardiff who will do everything, fight for the duals and second balls.

“I must say, our away performance has been incredible this season, even though we only take a point today.”

As mentioned, Sheffield Wednesday fans were labelled ’embarrassing’ for pyro on the train after the Cardiff game…

How thick do you need to be to do this
1) on the train
2) CCTV
3) Get your mate to film it and post it on social media.

@danielb28599656: Not very bright eh????

@johnrobinson07: Pretty stupid to film himself setting off a pyro on a train. The club will ban him and he will be most likely charged by British transport police 🤦
