Sheffield Wednesday boss ‘resigns’ ahead of potential Newcastle move

Sheffield Wednesday’s first team manager Steve Bruce is said to have resigned ahead of the much reported move to Newcastle United.

The Magpies have been looking for a replacement for Rafa Benitez, who left the club at the end of last month, leaving nearly every Newcastle fan calling for a boycott of their club.

The Owls haven’t issued an official statement on the ongoing situation, but instead confirmed free agent deals for their new signings.

BBC Sheffield reporter Adam Oxley has said: “Informed from #swfc that at present there’s “no change” in terms of Steve Bruce’s situation at the club but they’re unable to confirm if he’s resigned.”

Currently with the bookies, they are yet to suspend betting on Brucey becoming the new Newcastle boss, though Sky Bet have odds of 1-25 meaning it’s very likely he’ll leave.

Times journalist Paul Joyce tweeted: “Steve Bruce is understood to have resigned as Sheffield Wednesday manager this morning, along with assistants Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence.

“All three put resignations in writing.

“Newcastle have made an offer of compensation to Sheffield Wed – but it is still to be accepted.”

Speaking after the match, Bruce said: “It’s in the hands of both clubs.

“We will see what develops over the next 24 to 48 hours.

“At this particular moment, there is nothing really to talk about until the two clubs reach some sort of compromise.”
