Sensational goals and dramatic finish sees Liverpool produce late comeback against Fulham

Sensational goals and a dramatic finish sees Liverpool produce a late comeback against Fulham to win 4-3 at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Having scored a cracker at Manchester City the week before, Alexander-Arnold sent the ball into the top corner to open the scoring for Liverpool.

From around 25 yards from goal, TAA whipped a brilliant free-kick over the wall, off the bar and into the net 20 minutes in.

Fulham levelled five minutes later with Harry Wilson poking the ball home past Kelleher and silenced Anfield.

But then on 39 minutes, just as we watched a stunner from Alexander-Arnold, Mac Allister then pulled off the spectacular.

Jimenez misplaced a headed pass around 30 yards from goal, with Mac Allister getting onto it and sending a wonderful half-volley into the top corner.

On the verge of half time, Tete put the ball past Kelleher, but it had to be checked having been disallowed for offside. VAR then overturned the decision and Fulham were once again level.

8 minutes into added time, Fulham saw another goal disallowed.

Palhinha headed from a corner sent in by Pereira, Kelleher pushed it away, then Ream slammed in the rebound, but he was offside.

Nunez struck the crossbar on 53 minutes, before missing a sitter with half an hour remaining.

Kelleher denied Robinson on 76 minutes, with that followed up by Fulham went ahead when cross from the right was overhit, luckily Willian and Cairney got onto it and the latter clipped the ball to the far post.

Decordova-Reid wants it far more than Tsimikas, dominating his marker and guiding the ball past Kelleher.

It just looked like it wasn’t going to be Liverpool’s day, when Salah then somehow missed from a few yards out.

Just as Anfield fell quiet, they were soon celebrating again in the 85 minute as Nunez cushioned a long ball down to Salah, who this time laid the ball off for Endo, finishing into the top corner.

Liverpool made it two goals in three minutes – Nunez picking up the rebound, sent a cross to the back post for Alexander-Arnold, who brought the ball down and smashed a shot inside the near post.

The final whistle blew and fans were left coming away having watched a game worthy of the money they spent their hard cash on.

Player ratings (as per Sky Sports)

Liverpool:ย Kelleher (6), Alexander-Arnold (9), Matip (6), Van Dijk (6), Tsimikas (6), Gravenberch (6), Mac Allister (7), Szoboszlai (6) Salah (6), Nunez (6), Diaz (7).

Subs used:ย Gakpo (6), Gomez (6), Konate (6), Endo (7).

Fulham:ย Leno (7), Tete (7), Bassey (6), Ream (7), Robinson (7); Reed (6), Palhinha (7), Wilson (7), Pereira (6), Iwobi (7), Jimenez (7).

Subs used:ย Cairney (7), Willian (6), Reid (7), Castagne (6), Vinicius (n/a).

Player of the match:ย Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to Sky Sports:ย “I don’t think I ever saw a game with this amount of beautiful goals. But because we were a bit dumb we almost gave it away. In the first half when we gave the goals away the defending was awful.

“Football is decided in details. We were really good in the game and played a lot of good stuff but it was 2-2 at half time and deserved.

“They were there and scored a wonderful goal and it was 3-2 and everyone in a Fulham shirt thought that was it maybe and then we throw back with two worldies.

“We changed system a couple of times. There were tight moments, a lot of credit to Fulham, they had a really good idea, when we lost momentum they were there to cause us problems.

“Today the big shadow on the game is Joel Matip. A really unlucky situation but it doesn’t look good. I am pretty sure he will be out.

“We have to get through this, this was a good start of the busy period.”

Fulham manager Marco Silva to BBC Match of the Day:ย “I’m really proud of them, definitely. The way we played, the way we matched Liverpool. The way we showed the spirit.

“It was great, great goals every time. Normally that doesn’t happen. They scored four great goals from long distance. But the way we reacted every time from those situations. Even we were able to lead the score 3-2 for part of the second half.

“Of course I am proud. We didn’t deserve the result, definitely in my opinion. Even if you look to the first half of course we were much more controlled, won the ball from Liverpool. They didn’t create many chances in the first half, apart from the great goals they scored I don’t remember one clear chance from them.

“Second half for the 3-2 yes they had a counter-attack with Darwin Nunez hitting the crossbar. From that moment they didn’t create anything more until we scored to go 3-2. The game was really under control in that situation.

“We didn’t deserve the fourth goal against us. When the cross comes in from Darwin [Nunez] Bobby [De Cordova-Reid] challenges the ball in the air and [Konstantinos] Tsimikas, there is a fall on him. The referee should see. But I don’t want to go in this direction, I really want to talk about the positives from the game.

“We are taking many [positives] but unfortunately not points. But this is something we will take into the future.

“This is our image as a team. We want to play in a certain way and build something in this football club. We have to express ourselves on the pitch and the way we did it was really good.

“Unfortunately for us we deserved more but we didn’t take.”

@LFCApproved: I HAVE WITNESSED SOME OUTRAGEOUS GOALS AT ANFIELD TODAY! What a game to go to! That was outrageous, going down as an all-timer! ๐Ÿคฉ

@LFC_Matthew1: Best game Iโ€™ve ever been to oh my god what an ending

@JetRed07: One of the best games I’ve ever seen. Incredible goals. Great attacking play. Some loose defending. Opposition always a threat. End to end. Wow!! #LFC

@Addyant23: Think it’d be harder to find a better set of 4 goals than the one we witnessed tonight @LFC

@ChazzaG_lfc: Brilliant result and comeback that, buzzing, Endo 100% changed that game. And Nunez pulled out the shit once again, he’s fucking awful far too often, not arsed how much he celebrated.

@JordyLFC_: All that time wasting from Bernd Leno just to pick the ball out his net twice within a minute and lose the game, deserved the big whopper

@peazley23: Wow @LFC horrendous defensive performance but take the dub and we move! Deffo need a new back up Keeper in Jan as Kelleher nowhere near the standard and ffs get Trent in Midfield, lads difference class ๐Ÿ”ฅ #LFC

@robgreenwood1: In nearly 40 years of supporting #LFC, Iโ€™ve witnessed more than my share of ridiculous last-gasp wins. But I canโ€™t recall one with four Reds goals of such high quality, coupled with defending that poor. Trent stunning. Endo immense off the bench. Massive 3 points. #YNWA #LIVFUL

@JamiL_LFC: That comeback was a much more solid statement IMO. Not a good performance in general but the mentality and fighting spirit was champion material. A bad day at the office but we got through ๐Ÿ’ช

@a_ahbassam: Great comeback, astonishing goals โ™ฅ๏ธAnfield โ™ฅ๏ธ

@AaronOfRhodes: Love how all 3 screamers went into the same corner ๐Ÿ˜‚
