Scunthorpe launch an investigation into ‘disorder’ which took place in the stands during their 2-0 win against Kidderminster.
The club have issued a statement on Saturday (31 August), which can be seen below, after a flare was set off, with majority of supporters inside the stadium condemning the culprit.
Scunthorpe had earlier this month put out a warning over any anti-social behaviour that would occur in th 2024/25 season.
The morning after the National League North game, the club said: “⚽️ 𝐄𝐍𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇 𝐈𝐒 𝐄𝐍𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇!
“We stated enough is enough, and we meant it. Investigations are ongoing from last night, and we will maintain our zero tolerance stance from any outcomes of the findings.
“A big thank you to all supporters who reacted in the way that they did. Any sort of disorder is not welcome at Scunthorpe United, home or away.
“If anyone has any information or footage to share with us, please email feedback@scunthorpe-united.co.uk. #UTI #IRON”
Earlier in August, they wrote: Scunthorpe United Football Club would like to reaffirm to supporters about our zero-tolerance policy with regards to anti-social behaviour.
Last weekend at Brackley, there was 𝙖𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 alleged misconduct incident involving a Scunthorpe United fan, and we run a real risk of being in serious trouble with the Football Association.
Don’t think “it’ll never happen”, because it’s now a real possibility, and will have a huge detrimental effect to the club.
Scunthorpe United Football Club would like to reaffirm to supporters about our zero-tolerance policy with regards to anti-social behaviour.
A number of incidents were reported to the Football Association last season, with a charge brought against the club for misconduct in relation to failing to control spectators in the encounter against Chester on March 2nd, 2024 at the Attis Arena.
Incidents occurred during the fixture, including pitch incursions and assault which could have a severe detrimental effect to the football club, with the penalties sanctioned against the club which could include financial penalties, capacity restrictions and/or points deductions. That charge is still ongoing.
Following the number of incidents the club received over the course of the 2023-24 season, these penalties now become a real potential, and will damage the club profoundly, including loss of income, which could then have a detrimental knock-on effect to the playing budget, and ultimately the club’s bid for sustainability.
Already, with one game played this season, the club has had a report brought against it for an alleged incident whereby a supporter threw beer over the Brackley Town goalkeeper. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
Ensuring the safety of our supporters, players and staff is always of paramount importance to Scunthorpe United Football Club. Supporters who have been identified to have committed disorderly acts have been subject to the possibility of criminal prosecution and football banning orders.
Scunthorpe United will continue to work closely with the police and football authorities to stamp out this, and other types, of spectator misconduct.
This misconduct is anything from flares to the throwing of objects, entering the field of play for goal celebrations or to cause disorder are just some of the reasons the club can get reported for.
CONTINUED REPORTS COULD SEE A CAPACITY RESTRICTION PUT IN PLACE, FINANCIAL INCURSIONS AND/OR POINTS DEDUCTIONS DAMAGING YOUR CLUB
Should the team be successful on the pitch, don’t let that be ruined by the antics occuring off the pitch. Imagine those three points at Brackley being taken away from us because of an individual’s actions off the pitch.
Don’t think “it’ll never happen”, because it’s now a real possibility.
Co-owner and chair Michelle Harness said: “The consequences the club face as a result of these charges are profound.
“We will continue to work with the governing bodies to do all we can to improve what we do to prevent these incidents. Moving into the new season, on behalf of the Board and the football club as a whole, I must urge each and every spectator visiting us here at the Attis Arena to please refrain from entering the field of play, the use of pyrotechnics, and any other misconduct which could see us penalised.
“We are talking about the very, very small minority of spectators who are engaging in this anti-social behaviour, but these people in the minority are now causing a major problem.”
Here’s how fans on social media reacted as Scunthorpe launch an investigation into the ‘disorder’ during their win against Kidderminster…
@johnnhendo: Shouldn’t be too hard to identify the idiot he was stood up holding it for long enough
@mgell1s: Who’s the cunt who brought a flare? Lifetime ban please
@JackF_12: How many warnings/pleading comments are needed from the club? These people must just not care about the fines we’re getting
@PhilipMichael91: If a ‘fan’ costs us promotion from a points deduction they are no longer welcome in Scunthorpe never mind the Attis arena!
@AnnaEll06605627: have a friend who reported them to a steward in a prev match but still nothing done. no respect for the club whatsoever – permanent ban !
@NickB_UTI: Agreed, what an absolute dick
@wright58231: There’s always one fucking idiot! Agree, lifetime ban.
@ched53: Loved the way it was dealt with, with the club getting straight on the tannoy and the fans calling them out and filming it too 👏🏻 hopefully a ban on the way
@bowiebhoy72: #cuntbehaviour
Hannah Louise: Deserve a ban for life ruin it for everyone
Gary Barker: Please consider fans with respiratory problems. Every time a flare gets set off it triggers an asthma attack from my son. It’s not fair on him! I bet there’s loads with similar issues. We need fans to turn up not turn on each other!
Kev Allen: Nice to see the crowd turn on him
Steve Dent: Let’s just that years ago the fans would had dealt with him themselves, given him a good hiding
Hannah Louise: Everyone who finds it funny are just as bad
Maxine Taylornew: I just dont see the point. A Friday night match against Kidderminster. I mean, why? Am I getting old and boring and losing my touch
Paul Taylor: If the club cant stop them then maybe its time the true supporters did
Kev Allen: It was great to see the crowd turn on him though , well done everyone
David Braithwaite: Surely CCTV can identify them and ban them for life. Also – why isn’t security at the turnstiles preventing the culprits taking them into the ground – obviously not doing their jobs properly……..
Alison Redhead: It’s frustrating as the impact this could have on the club is massive. Imagine if we get a points deduction (which is a possibility) because a small minority of fans can’t follow simple rules!!!
Matt Argent: People commenting to defend these utter bellends. Absolutely cringeworthy. Brain dead sums these idiots up.
