Ryan Hedges mocks John Buckley red card decision with dramatic reaction after ball thrown at him

Ryan Hedges mocks the John Buckley red card decision with a dramatic reaction of his own after a ball is thrown at him against Cardiff City.

Blackburn Rovers picked up their second win from six games to boost their promotion hopes as Bradley Dack’s deflected goal was enough to snatch all three points against the Bluebirds.

The only goal of the game came just three minutes into the second half, after an uninspiring first half, with Dack’s shot diverted off Jack Simpson to wrong-foot away side’s keeper Ryan Allsop.

On the 58th minute, Ryan Hedges decided to do something that went on to go viral, with many supporters laughing at the mickey take.

It relates to the game against Middlesbrough, with John Buckley shown a straight red card by referee Leigh Doughty, over an ‘incident’ which caught the attention of the linesman.

The Rovers midfielder was seen throwing the ball at the back of Riley McGree’s head as they prepared to take a free kick.

Blackburn appealed the ban, with the incident deemed as violent conduct which carries an automatic three-game suspension, but the FA have upheld it.

Cardiff had opportunities to take something from this game, however the Championship’s lowest scorers looked bleak for much of the game, continuing that form and remain 20th in the standings.

The Bluebirds are seven games without a victory and their three-point lead over the bottom three reduced or cut completely depending on how the teams below them play get over the New Year Bank Holiday weekend.

Blackburn however close the gap between them and the two automatic promotion places to eight points, however second-placed Sheffield United could restore their advantage when they head to QPR on Monday night.

Jon Dahl Tomasson was pleased his side got 2023 off to the best start possible.

“It’s a brilliant start to the new year for us, winning at Ewood Park and keeping a clean sheet,” the boss beamed to RoversTV.

“We knew it was going to be a difficult game against Cardiff and we saw that immediately when they came and changed the formation to a 5-4-1.

“It was like playing against a wall, but we started the first half with great energy and with good football.

“We spoke about the solutions at half time and scored a great goal. We should probably have scored more goals as well.

“We had to change formation towards the end when Joe got injured. It wasn’t the perfect way but we needed to change, dug in and it was a well-deserved win in the end,” he added.

“It felt like we were the better team and really wanted to win the game.

“We really dug in and you could hear the fans helping us over the line towards the end.”

Mark Hudson spoke to Sky Sports after a narrow defeat to Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

“We were resilient in the first half, but I don’t think we created too many opportunities.” Mark began. “In the second half, we didn’t start the way we wanted to, and then we’re chasing the game.

“When we’ve struggled to create chances, it’s very difficult to break down a good side.

“After the last game, digging in as well as they did, they put a lot of graft in. I thought I’d freshen it up, and that might bring a little bit of impetus towards their goal.

“We’ve got players that are raring to go, trying to get onto the pitch. They brought some impetus to the game, but not enough cutting edge.

“We had a couple of moments, but we didn’t create or have that real cutting edge or belief in front of goal or around the box, to go 1v1 or set someone to take their opportunity. It’s something we need to work on.”
