Ryan Giggs responds to allegations of assaulting his girlfriend

Ryan Giggs responds to allegations of assaulting his girlfriend after being arrested on Sunday night ahead of Wales’ November fixtures.

The shocking news came out on Monday night, with various media outlets stating that Wales cancelled Giggs’ squad announcement last night for three of their upcoming fixtures, which were due to be via Zoom on Tuesday morning.

Welsh Football Association chiefs were locked in talks on Monday night over how to deal with Giggs’ alleged conduct.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “Police were called at 10.05 pm on Sunday to reports of a disturbance.

“A woman in her 30s sustained minor injuries but did not require any treatment.

“A 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of section 47 assault and section 39 common assault.”

The Welsh FA added: “The squad announcement scheduled for tomorrow will no longer take place and has been postponed.”

Giggs emerged from Pendleton police station on Monday afternoon after hours of questioning.

The former Premier League star will have to answer to chief executive Jonathan Ford over the alleged incident. Now Ryan Giggs’ future as Wales manager is at risk after being arrested.

It is not clear at this stage whether Giggs will be relieved of his duties or not as he was set to be in charge for the friendly with the USA in Swansea on November the 12th.

Official comment from a FAW spokesperson on Giggs: “The FAW is aware of an alleged incident involving the men’s national team manager Ryan Giggs. The FAW will be making no further comment at this current time.”

Following that, there’s the Nations League double-header against the Republic of Ireland and Finland in Cardiff later this month.

WHAT’S HAPPENED SINCE THE ARREST

The 46-year-old was arrested and later bailed over an alleged row with “on-off girlfriend” Kate Greville at his home.

“The Football Association of Wales and Ryan Giggs have mutually agreed that he will not be involved in the upcoming international camp,” said an FAW statement.

“Our agreed immediate priority is preparing the team for the upcoming international matches.

“Robert Page, with Ryan’s support, will take charge for the next three matches against the USA, Republic of Ireland and Finland supported by Albert Stuivenberg.”

A statement released on behalf of Giggs on Tuesday morning said: “Mr Giggs denies all allegations of assault made against him.

“He is cooperating with the police and will continue to assist them with their ongoing investigations.”

Two police cars were parked outside Giggs’ house in Worsley, Greater Manchester, on Sunday evening following reports of a disturbance involving 36-year-old PR worker Ms Greville.

His girlfriend has packed her bags, taken her puppy and left the mansion and are said to be in a safe house.

Giggs has been dating Kate on and off since 2017.

He divorced his wife Stacey Giggs – now going out with musician and Strictly star Max George – after cheating on her for eight years with his brother Rhodri’s wife Natasha.

Hours before the police were called on Sunday. Kate tweeted a photo of four-month-old dog Mac captioned: “The prettiest boy I ever did see.”
