Roy Keane was prepared to ‘hang around the dressing room’ and confront MK Dons keeper

Roy Keane was prepared to ‘hang around the dressing room’ and confront MK Dons keeper after his performance in defeat to Salford on Monday.

Tom McGill, loaned out by Brighton, was on the receiving end of some scathing criticism from Roy Keane with the Class of ’92’s Salford winning the game 1-0.

McGill’s actions in the closing moments is what really riled up Keane, as can be seen below, leaving Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville in stitches of laughter.

Roy said: I can also make the point there. You mentioned Salford and MK Dons. You know about the arrogance of people playing out, and the craziness I find when players are coming up and playing on the back when they’re losing and the goalkeepers coming he taking seven, eight touches. I was going to hang around the dress room after the match and just see the MK Dons goalkeeper and ask him going you know you know when you’re losing with 15 minutes you’re losing he’s coming up yeah yeah

Gary Neville in hysterics with Jamie Carragher: He’s not expecting this the MK Dons goalkeeper

Keane continued: But you know when you do in American Sports the time out you know after 70 minutes you go just time out you as a lads come over to you go lads you know we’re losing, we have to get a goal down there like 19 passes MK Dons what do you think you are, get a forward. Jesus you’re losing they don’t know what the score is

Jamie Carragher then looked to Gary Neville and said with a smile: “Those are the opinions of Roy Keane and not Salford FC.”

Neville added: “You’re a director at Salford, you can’t speak like that about our opponents, he’s there every week I know exactly what he’s saying…”

McGill said post-match, per MK Citizen: “The feeling is that we’ve won one in four and it’s not good enough,” he said. “We are coming away from the pitch thinking we’ve dominated, we’ve created chances and had spells where we look really, really good.

“We’ve played four very different teams now, and we’ve always found a team to break them down and create moments. It’s disappointing because we’re coming away from another loss, but we know we’re doing the right thing.

“It’s a blip, it has come at the start so when we find our feet, we’ll be scoring goals, creating more chances, being clinical and ruthless at both ends. That’s the difference at the moment and I believe that will come.”

McGill continued: “We need to pick and choose our moments better at times. We have to be more clinical, but we’ve got good enough players to move the ball better. No-one means to miss chances, you see when things go right for them just how good they are. We just have to keep the belief.

“The energy of the group will make it work, will always create chances and will always have big moments in the game. But overall, it’s one win in four so it’s a disappointing night.

“They did their research, on the night they got it right. We still created chances, did our bit, we all ran and gave their all. On another night, we take our early chances, keep the back door shut and it’s a more obvious result. It’s a tough one to take.”

Here’s how fans reacted as Roy Keane says he was prepared to ‘hang around the dressing room’ and confront the MK Dons keeper…

@sgracie81: It’s now sad to see that this robotic way of playing is now being drip fed and used through the lower leagues. Bring back direct, fast attacking football!

@lee_calderr: I’m a Gateshead supporter and Mike Williamson, the MK Dons gaffer did an outstanding job at Gateshead before he moved to MK Dons, and that should never be forgotten, but he had one way of playing, and it got very tedious watching us at 1-1 or 0-1 down, passing it back to the gk.

@verysharpmango: Wrexham is great at the moment. Phil Parkinson has his critics, but its play simple and safe at back, let other team have ball but when we get it it’s lightening attack, with great link up and intricate passing, Like mid-90s Man U was comparison made by guy in seats behind me

@Goal_De_Scholes: The segment about playing out from the back was spot on for me. Teams are doing it for the sake of it without getting any benefit from doing so whatsoever.

@the_kiterarti: An a Dons supporter I couldn’t agree more with Roy Keane. This highlights what we say. No Plan B.

@gumbo1885: Boring possession based football is ruining the game.

@WolvesBlogger1: We’re all Roy Keane

@Celtic67Champs: If you don’t love Keane there’s something wrong with you. What a man 🤔

@LiamK2292: Roy Keane is spot on. Unfortunately a lot of managers stick to playing this way and have no plan B. We’ve been guilty many times.

@_callumfowler: Russel Martin

@ollielad24: Tbh he’s got a point 😂😂

@Coisrig: He’s not wrong 😂

@dylanfletcher17: Everything that’s wrong with fitba now, losing and still playing passy between two doodoo centre halfs 💀

@BrummieTricky: Absolutely spot on. Wrecks my head

@NabilN17er: Roy Keane is me here. Grew up in punting it long to the target man. No wonder we rarely see bangers from distance like we used to

@Thecityvent: Mark Hughes vibes 😂 Will never forget the frustration and veins popping in my head when that ball was going side to side. #bcafc #bantams

@aaron_bwfc: Replace mk Dons with Bolton and this Is us to a tee 😂 he’s 100% right though about lower league teams playing like this, it’s as if this is the only way teams are allowed to play these days regardless of player ability #bwfc

@wafc_110513: Applies to #wafc this. Leads to situations where the manager and chairman hold up a game where we had zero shots as being an impressive performance

@BWFCMason: Wait until he’s Santos stand on the ball for two minutes, he’d lose it properly

@BWFCAuctioneer: Bang on. Let’s hope Santos watches this

@Clarkey_No1: I see a lot of football at lower league level and I have to say I agree with Keane. It’s become the perception that you’ve got to play ‘nice’ football. As admirable as that is, you’ve got to stick it on the opposition when you’re behind, surely?!

@bh_bryn: Peterborough fans could do with listening to him.

@27hpork: I think the same most times I watch football nowadays tbh 😂. So frustrating watching shit footballers try and play it round the back because 9 times out of 10, they lose the ball and concede. Does my nut in. Lots of football league teams are like it & a few Prem sides too… 💤
