Roy Keane amuses with response to future son-in-law Taylor Harwood-Bellis scoring for England in the 5-0 thrashing over Ireland.
When the host, Mark Pougatch, pointed out that Harwood-Bellis is Keane’s future son-in-law, Keane humorously remarked, “It’s not done and dusted yet! Listen, things can change really quickly in the Keane household!”
This comment had his fellow pundits in hysterics, as Keane so often does with his typical dry humour. Despite the light-hearted warning, Keane also praised Harwood-Bellis, noting his goal-scoring ability and character, indicating that while he might jest about the family dynamics, he was genuinely pleased for the young defender’s achievement on the pitch.
Roy Keane’s daughter Leah recently got engaged to England CB Taylor Harwood-Bellis.
On commentary today, Mark Pougatch said ‘Not everybody knows that is your future son in law’ to Keane.

The Southampton defender rose highest, getting on the end of a ball sent in from Jude Bellingham at the back post and headed it past Caoimhin Kelleher.
Keane, who made over 60 appearances fore Ireland, was invested in Harwood-Bellis’ performance given the footballer is his future son-in-law.
Earlier this year, Harwood-Bellis announced his engagement to Keane’s daughter, Leah, left Keane rather torn.
Keane’s amusing comments left fellow pundit Ian Wright, and no doubt many viewers watching across the country, laughing.
Keane did go on to say that he should be able to get over Harwood-Bellis’ goal, adding: “It’s good for him to make his debut, he’s a bit of a goal threat. He’s a nice kid, his family have done a really great job. Really nice kid.”
Harwood-Bellis, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: “It is a great day for me and my family. It’s every young kid’s dream to make their debut, and to score the goal is magical.
“I had a few hints yesterday that I would be needed at some point, when I got the nod to come on I was over the moon.
“There’s always a pathway and us young ones, we do believe we can get into the seniors. We know the door is open if we take our chances, I’ve got to thank Lee [Carsley] for calling me up and I have repaid him with a nice goal.
“Playing for my country at every level is something I take such pride in. To play for the seniors is something you dream of, it is the pinnacle of football, to do it and score is some feeling.”
England thrashed 10-man Republic of Ireland 5-0 at Wembley and were promoted back to League A of the Nations League; second-half goals from Harry Kane – via the penalty spot – Anthony Gordon, Conor Gallagher, Jarrod Bowen and Taylor Harwood-Bellis sealed the big win, for what was Lee Carsley’s final game in interim charge.
England captain Harry Kane, speaking to ITV Sport: “A really important win for us. It has been a really good camp and two tough games. We got the job done in Greece and again here. It was a tough first half but we came out with more energy and we finished it off.
“We spoke about new opportunities for new lads and they’ve shown why they are here and a couple of good finishes. It was nice for Jarrod [Bowen] too to come on and score straight away.
“Thomas [Tuchel] has a lot of players to choose from. A lot of young players that have come in and done well and some more experienced players that are injured and will be looking to come back so there’s a good balance. I’m sure he [Tuchel] will be looking at everyone.”
On Lee Carsley’s impact as interim boss: “He has been top drawer, him and all the staff. After the Euros it was never going to be easy to come and go straight into the Nations League and sometimes the motivation is a bit less.
England’s Anthony Gordon, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live about his first international goal:“Better late than never. It’s definitely about time!
“It was a good feeling to see it hit the net, I got to spend it with some of the lads that I have come through the England setup, that made it a bit more special.
“They made it really hard, they were defending with 11 players behind the ball, but I said to the lads, ‘they can’t keep up that running for 90 minutes, it is not possible’.
“I think Lee [Carsley] deserves a lot of credit, he fills us with so much confidence.”
The Football Association’s chief executive, Mark Bullingham, has paid tribute to Lee Carsley:
“I would like to thank Lee Carsley and his coaching team for their hard work and results in the last six games.
“Lee has achieved the main objective from the six fixtures this autumn: securing promotion back to the top tier of the Nations League. He has selected some exciting new players and will be providing Thomas Tuchel and Anthony Barry with a very detailed handover as they start work on our qualifying campaign for the 2026 Fifa World Cup.
“The players have really enjoyed working with Lee and his team – they have made a real impact in their interim roles. Lee will now return to the Under-21s and will continue to play a vital role supporting the seniors by developing England’s best young players.
“His leadership and coaching gives us the best possible chance of back-to-back U21 Euro wins next summer, and he will continue to play a big part in elite football development across the FA.”
England interim boss Lee Carsley, speaking to ITV Sport, said: “It was a good performance. I thought the way we started the game was good and we played with real intensity. It was frustrating to come off 0-0 at half-time but I had the belief that we would score the goals.
“It was a great evening for a lot of players and the main thing was getting promotion. That was the main thing we said we wanted to do so that was pleasing.”
Asked what his overriding feeling was at the end of his spell in his charge, Carsley said “relief” and added: “I wanted the England team to be exciting to watch and be attacking. I see them day in day out on the training ground and now we’ve seen it.
“I can only do what I was in control of. It’s not a gamble with some of these players, they are excellent players, they want to overcome anything in front of them and at the under-21s they have had an expectation of winning.
“It [his spell in charge] has given myself and the staff the confidence that we can do the job. You always doubt whether you can do the job, and there’s a lot of people in their homes picking the squad and picking the team.
“The trust from my bosses has been a massive boost of confidence.”
Lee Carsley, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live about Harry Kane: “We spoke about that yesterday, about the difference between Harry and Ollie Watkins.
“Harry has the vision of a midfielder and Jude running off him was a brilliant run, an all-round great goal.”
On Taylor Harwood-Bellis’ debut goal: “I think he took his goal so well, it was brilliant to get him on the pitch. He has captained the under-21s, hopefully we get him back in March, but he will be keen to stay with the seniors.”
On messages to Thomas Tuchel: “The pool of players has increased.
“I’ll give him as much information that he needs.”
On his interim tenure: “I have enjoyed it in parts, the games have always been the best bit.
“I am still gutted about the Greece game at home, if anything I am not thinking about the five wins, it is the one we have lost.”
Republic of Ireland captain Nathan Collins, speaking to RTE:
“First of all, it’s probably an apology from all the lads for that second half. That’s nowhere near the standard we should be. Obviously circumstances changed things but we know as a group we’re a lot better than, that’s not on and we need to do a lot better than that.”
On the penalty and Liam Scales’ second yellow card: “I’d need to see it back again, I did think it was a little bit soft if I’m honest. Yeah, he [the referee] did like his yellow card but it doesn’t take away from the fact that we weren’t good enough in the second half.”
Republic of Ireland boss Heimir Hallgrimsson speaking to RTE:
“First half was like we wanted it but it’s easy to say we had a good first half but when you lose 5-0 there’s nothing you can say.”
Asked if the red card denied the Irish a possible result, he added: “We’ll never know that. It was six, eight minutes of madness, ending up with conceding a penalty. Losing the ball is one thing, not reacting is another and conceding a penalty, losing a player, it was a lot of shock. 1-0 and then in your face you get a second and I just felt we lost our heads at that moment. After that, there was no way back.
“We kind of just gave up. Easy to stand outside and criticise the players but it was a crazy moment that killed everything, not only the gameplan but the momentum and fight seemed to be taken away from them.
“There is hardly anything I can say now. You try to pick the positives and the positive was the first half.”
