Roy Hodgson takes a swipe at “spoilt” Crystal Palace fans after having boos and an object thrown at him in the game against Bournemouth.
The Metropolitan Police are investigating reports of an object allegedly being thrown towards Hodgson come full time on Wednesday night.
The plastic object reportedly didn’t hit anyone, and according to Hodgson, it made no psychological impact either.
The defeat extended Bournemouth’s unbeaten Premier League run to four games under manager Andoni Iraola, while Palace are still on the search for their second home win this season.
Hodgson’s side remain nine points above the drop zone, with the manager joking about the incident with the angry fan.

He said: “So you mean to say there was a fan out there who doesn’t like me? That will definitely stop me sleeping.”
He also responded to comments he made earlier to Amazon Prime Video, suggesting that Eagles supporters might be “spoiled” by positive results in recent years.
He goes on: “The fact is if I said that in the spur of the moment, to some extent there’s truth in it, yes.
“We need the fans of Crystal Palace as we know them, because without them it will become really, really hard for us, because the players need them, so I suppose my point, if I’m making a point at all, is don’t desert us because it’s a bad moment.
“We’re as sad as they are. We aren’t giving them what they want. If I say you’ve been spoiled, well, that’s pretty harsh. I mean, what is spoiled?
“But for me you have to remember that my relationship with the club is basically a fourth division club, a third division club, a Championship club. The first division of the football league when I was growing up was beyond my wildest dreams. Now it’s not. Now I think we are a bona-fide Premier League team. I think we’ve earned that right.”

Roy Hodgson, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “I thought we lost to a better team on the night. I was disappointed, of course.
“I think the score line is a bit harsh. The second goal is one of those that is a nail in the coffin but we’d lost the game by that stage and these games are the really awkward ones for any team.
“We’re not playing as well as we’d like at the moment. Our home form has not been good.
“We’re playing against a team whose form is very good but, unfortunately, everyone thinks that that team is nowhere near as good as we are – and that’s a false observation because they are as good as we are. Tonight I thought they were better than we are.
“I can’t fault the players for effort. I thought we tried very hard, especially second half. We didn’t concede many goal chances until they got the late one.
“All our efforts, all our work, all our toughing it out to keep us in the game didn’t create enough goal chances and, as a result, the fans are unhappy because they came here expecting us to blow this tiny Bournemouth team away.
“But this tiny Bournemouth team turned out to be a very good one.”
On fans’ frustrations: “This is par for the course in football. People come with expectations to see their team win and when you don’t, when you don’t play as well as we would have liked then they express their frustrations.
“I think the players’ efforts in the second half were worthy of some sort of support really. But the frustration is, [the fans] came tonight thinking this was going to be an easy win for Crystal Palace and it turned out to be a home defeat.
On lack of goals: “We’re worried, of course we are. But to score goals you need two things: to get your confidence back and then produce the combinations, the movements and the quality in front of goal.
“We did create one or two chances in the game that on another day might have helped us. But I agree, at the moment we are not doing enough in that respect. When one or two players return that might help us as well.”
On turning form around: “I don’t play. All you can do is prepare your team and send them out there, hope they understand what they need to do and have the confidence to try things and bring them off.
“When that’s not happening, experience tells you that you have to stay behind them. We can’t force the fans to stay behind them in those moments. We can’t get them to do what they are so famed for doing if they chose not to do that.
“The players themselves have got to stay together and accept this is a bad moment in our season. It is a moment, this is the 15th game of 38. The only ones that can stop it happening are the players in that dressing room.”
On Liverpool game: “One hopes that one’s supporters will support. It might be a lame hope but one hopes that when times are hard, people get behind and rally round to give us even more support than they would be doing if we were playing better.
“It’s a new game. Just because Liverpool are more highly than Bournemouth doesn’t mean we can’t do a good job against them. I will certainly defend the team against any criticism about effort.”
Of course we expected to blow tiny Bournemouth away, when I grew up watching Bournemouth they were a League One, League Two side, the Premier League would’ve been out of their wildest dreams. They can’t be good.
That’s how it works, isn’t it Roy? #cpfc

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraloa, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “We were efficient today. We were not brilliant.
“It was very important for us to score first. Whenever you score first, you can attack the spaces more.
“They are not a team that gives you a lot of transitions but, at the end especially, we had some chances to score the second one. Luckily we did.”
On recent form: “The players have continued working really hard and now we are getting the results. But from the first day they have been trying to implement what I have been telling them.
“Now we have players in very good form and we still need points. We want more points and we have to take them because we’re playing well.
“It’s easier to push, to train when results are coming but this group has done it when we were not winning any games.
“We have to continue taking the games week to week. We have a difficult one at the weekend against Manchester United but we have to give it a go, play to our level and see if that is enough to get a result.”
On the upcoming game against Man United: “We have to recover well now because it is going to be tough. It’s the third game in a week and the third one is always the tough one. We’ll see if we have to change some players.”

Game isn’t even over at this point. This is what Steve Parish, John Textor, Harris and Blitzer have done to our club.
You had the chance to turn things around but you went back to your safety plan. Now that that’s fucked up, what the fuck do you do now owners? #CPFC pic.twitter.com/WBcONM7M3q

This is what Twitter users had to say as Roy Hodgson takes a swipe at “spoilt” Crystal Palace fans after hearing boos and having an object thrown at him…
@El_Smuggo: Roy Hodgson had a bottle thrown at him tonight. The absolute state of some people, this is a 76 year old man. Show some fucking respect.
@PaulDenney7: Disgusting. Ban them once they are found
@Nyerider: Hodgson could’ve signed off a bit of a hero at the end of last season. Instead, he’s been hung out to dry, and the fans have turned. Completely the boards fault. They are vermin. #cpfc
@lbrox_Loyal: Bit harsh attacking an old man.
@PDBertram: They have certainly not been spoilt. Think they are easily the worst Premier League side to follow. Never in contention for anything but never in real danger of relegation. Might not matter if they were great to watch but that’s a rare thing as well from my experience.
@BoyceDrew: He doesn’t deserve this no matter what your thoughts. Roy loves the club and would not want to let us down. Parish and the board should have never put him in this position.
@bazza2304: Come the end of December we will have W1 D1 L9. That is the end of Roy if not sooner. There was absolutely no urgency or commitment from the players. I think he has lost them. And now the fans are turning and who can blame them. Once that happens you know it’s over.
@voyce72: Cant believe it will be too hard to identify them as not many left in the ground at the end!
@SouthCoastEagle:
Roy Hodgson – “Palace fans have been spoilt here at home in recent times”.
1 Home win this season
4 Home wins since Oct 2023
Liverpool (h) and Man City (a) up next. Got a funny feeling we’ll be ‘spoilt’ again 🤦🏽
@HunterCPFC: I know we’re all pissed off but seeing people call Hodgson a cunt doesn’t sit well with me. I can’t stand his selections, tactics or playing style either but he’s a decent man. Hopefully the outcome we all want is done soon but Parish & the board haven’t helped him. #cpfc
@andylatts: So According to Hodgson we expect to much and have been spoilt over the years and according to Parish most of the fanbase love the football we play and it’s the younger fanbase before 2010 that moan, want ambition and money spent? Absolute joke! 🤡 #cpfc
@SWPalace: How can you even back Hodgson after his comments last night? Even if we beat Liverpool on the weekend, he clearly thinks incredibly little of us. Entitled, spoilt, and expectant. Loves the Palace support until we lose, after that it’s toxic and delusional.
@only26miles: Always supported Hodgson but to suggest that the fans have been spoilt, especially at home, is clutching at straws. Squad depth is non-existent, investment is minimal and injuries taking their toll – not the fans fault Roy! Very rarely down the years have I hear fans boo the team
