Michelle Owen calls out Joey Barton over his ‘sexist posts’ about women in men’s game

Sky Sports pundit Michelle Owen calls out out of work manager Joey Barton over a series of his ‘sexist posts’ about women in the men’s game.

Barton seemingly doubled down on what he had to where he claimed that women shouldn’t be allowed to commentate on men’s football.

Yet, this controversial viewpoint has surfaced once more, and now Barton’s comments had led to him trending on Twitter.

Posting to the social media platform this week, he wrote a number of tweets where he both celebrated women’s football, but then said female pundits shouldn’t talk about the men’s game.

He said: “Women shouldn’t be talking with any kind of authority in the men’s game. Come on. Let’s be serious. It’s a completely different game. If you don’t accept that. We will always see things differently. The women’s game is thriving. Fantastic to see. I cannot take a thing they say serious in the men’s arena. #namaste”

He then said: “Any man who sits and engages with them in this regard has sold out. The game is about levels. Most men’s opinion has little value. Never mind anyone else…

“Any man who listens to Women commentary or co-comms needs their heads testing…”

One user said in response to Barton: “He’s finished in football and he knows it, Nobody would have him as a commentator, probably angling for a job on GB news now.”

To which Barton said: “Been in football since I’ve left school pal. I’ll decide what I do in the game. It actually bores me. Full of sh*tbags. Maggots. Liars. People pleasers. Luckily, I’ve played at a level to earn enough to say and do what the f*ck I want.”

He then went one step further: “Stand by everything I’ve said on Women commenting and co-comms on the Men’s football. Like me talking about Knitting or Netball. Way out of my comfort zone. Some of the Men are bad enough! We have gone too far. You cannot watch a game now without hearing the nonsense. Any man who says otherwise is an absolute fart parcel.”

One user said: “Yeah! I mean with Alex Scott in particular, other than her degree in Professional Sports Writing and Broadcasting, extensive playing career and lengthy TV experience, what justification could there possibly be for her fronting shows about the men’s game?”

While another added: “Out of all the pundits I’ve listened to recently, find Emma Hayes the most knowledgable on the game, so I guess that makes me a fart parcel.”

Michelle Owen took issue with Joey Barton, tweeting: “Let’s hope you’re not looking for punditry work if that coaching thing doesn’t work out…”

One user replied to her: “Women are utterly shit when trying to talk about men’s sport”

To which she responded: “Well I am a woman and I make a living out of it so I must be better than you Barry 💁‍♀️”

Joey Barton continues adding to his Twitter thread…

Other Twitter users reacted as Michelle Owen calls out Joey Barton over his ‘sexist posts’ about women in the men’s game…

@CazParker1871: God, there really are no levels as to which you won’t sink. I’ve seen some shocking male pundits on the box, and I’ve seen some good female ones. Don’t make it about gender, make it about ability. Shame on you for peddling such sexist crap.

@TheRealLKA: Listen to Michael Owen, Andy Townsend et al. Dreadful.

@bensteck: I think it’s a flawed logic. We’re seeing a growing number of managers who haven’t played at a high level, some great pundits especially in the EFL who haven’t played. I think ex pro’s are the only ones who think they know the game better than anyone else these days.

@shellbennett: I’m not on tv but feel I talk with authority on men’s football. Been watching games live & on tv for 43 yrs. Not interested in women’s football. I have many male friends I have detailed conversations about football with. There are some women who know a lot about men’s football.

@andyhashtag1gk: Give me Emma Hayes over Dion Dublin on comms any day 🎙️

@CheapPanini: Christ mate shut the fuck up

@0contextrovers: Your dealer’s made a fortune tonight

@Anfieldlnsider: I’d put Kelly Cates’ football knowledge up against urs any day of the week.

@matthayesthfc: Aw, the poor guy can’t handle not being relevant anymore 😂

@Staceywestblog: Trying to be controversial on purpose. File under Piers Morgan and Laurence Fox.

@6thiagoat: Joey been on the packet tonight 😭😭

@phoebsd: @X please can you stop filling my feed with Joey Barton’s sexist tweets it’s making me 🥱🥱

@nocontextfm1: I remember my first beer

@RANK1NN: See Joey Barton has completely lost the fucking plot. Nowt to do with him having a new podcast series coming out, I’m sure…

@benfinchh_: Joey Barton has absolutely lost the plot ahhahahaha
