Romford make an apology for getting thrashed

Romford make an apology to their supporters for witnessing their team getting thrashed 6-0 against promotion contenders Aveley at the weekend.

Glenn Tamplin’s side went into the Isthmian League North Division fixture on the back of a 2-1 win over Felixstowe & Walton United on the 7th of December.

The goal of the game came after nine minutes, Aveley’s Wyan Reid got to the byline, squared the ball across to Shad Ngandu who smashed home his tenth goal of the season.

The hosts doubled the scoreline five minutes later, when a long ball over the top forces a mix up between Romford’s centre half and keeper with the ball going over the keeper to meet Alex Akrofi who tapped in to an empty net.

Just before the interval, Akrofi’s head was on the end of Jason Raad’s free-kick to make it 3-0.

The goalscorer completed his hat-trick not long into the second half, he managed to dribble past two players before striking into the bottom corner of the goal.

The goals didn’t stop there, as Shad Ngandu picks the ball up 25 yards out from a short corner and bends it into the top left hand corner to make it 5-0 with just over 10 minutes to play.

Akrofi grabbed his fourth of the game when he received the ball inside the area and smashed his effort in off the underside of the bar to complete the 6-0 goalfest.

The club tweeted to their followers: “We at Romford would like to apologise for today’s performance, this was not the standard that we expect from our players, we have got a good week to turn things around and start to write them wrongs in the new year!

“Apologies to all supporters and thank you for coming over ?”

Player Jason Banton added: “Poor result for us yesterday! Apologies to our travelling fans but we will bounce back ASAP and puts things for sure @RomfordFC”
