Rodri responds when asked about his former club Man City reportedly being found guilty of financial breaches on Friday afternoon.

On Friday afternoon, The Athletic’s David Ornstein revealed that Man City were found guilty on all but one of the 115 charges, breaching league financial regulations.

City are expected to appeal against the verdict issued by independent commission and are yet to find out what sanctions they face, with the process ongoing.

A few hours later, during his press conference, ahead of Spain’s game against England, Rodri was asked if he felt that the Man City owners ever lied to the players about the 115 charges.

Rodri said, as per The Sun: “We have faced something similar back in 2020, we had a similar judicial process [UEFA charge]. A different accusation but similar process.

“There as well in the first instance we were found guilty but we believed in the club and the innocence that the club maintained and in the end we were acquitted.

“What we did, they cannot take it out of us. It is something that is not paid by money, it is paid with effort, partnership and being shoulder to shoulder every day.

“We had a lot of success over the years and here at Wembley so I can tell you everything was deserved and we had one of the best eras of English football.”

He added: “For us the players it is a different thing than for you guys. I can understand the opinions, it is something that now is big.

“We always tried to think in a positive way, when you live that club daily and the people who have worked hard all these years to have all the success we had.

“Not only Pep and the players but all the structure, the owners to the guys who worked daily.

“They always told us the confidence they have of their innocence. When you look into someone’s eyes talking that way…

“We have the example of 2020 when the process was the same and nothing happened.

“We were very calm in this way, you never saw the team nervous about these kind of things.

“I am not saying it is normal but some teams go through these situations. It is part of football that you have to follow the rules, which is great.

“They always expressed the confidence that they never did something wrong and we believed in that.

“Until the moment they are proved wrong we will believe the club and I have been there, I know how they work and how they co-operate so that is what I can tell you.”

Kaveh Solhekol said via Sky Sports News: “There are reports this afternoon that an independent tribunal has reached decisions in Manchester City’s 115 charges case.

“Those reports claim that most of the charges were found to have been proven and we also understand that the process has now moved to the appeal stage.

“Now the Premier League are not commenting at all today because this is a private and confidential process. They will not be providing any guidance at all.

“We have been in touch with Manchester City and a Manchester City spokesperson says the Premier League process remains ongoing with significant elements to be completed and subject to strict confidentiality.

“As such, Manchester City position remains consistent with the club’s statement of February 2023.

“The club has diligently respected due process for eight years on the basis that the Premier League board and executive would behave as an independent, impartial and fair minded regulator free from partisan influence.

“City were charged with breaking the Premier League’s financial rules between 2009 and 2018 and also failing to cooperate with the Premier League investigation between 2019 and 2023.

“It is very important to stress that City deny any wrongdoing and they’ve always said that their defence is supported by comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence.

“54 charges to do with failing to provide accurate financial information.

“35 charges to do with failing to cooperate with the Premier League investigations between December 2018 and February 2023.

“14 charges relating to a failure to provide accurate details for player and manager payments from 2009-10 season and also the 17-18 season.

And seven charges were to do with breaching the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules in two seasons, 2015-16 and 17-18.

And also five charges relating to failing to comply with UEFA’s rules including financial fair play rules in the 13-14 and 17-18 seasons.”
