Rival fans troll Darwin Nunez for missing ‘open goal’ in thrashing by Man Utd

Rival fans quickly took troll Darwin Nunez for missing an ‘open goal’ in Liverpool’s 4-0 thrashing by opponents Man Utd on Tuesday.

Erik ten Hag enjoyed a dream start to life as the new manager of Manchester United with an emphatic pre-season victory over weakened rivals Liverpool in Thailand.

United ran riot against an unfamiliar Liverpool side with Jadon Sancho’ opening the scoring, then a fabulous lob was produced from Fred, and a breakaway effort from Anthony Martial put his side in three-goal lead at the break.

Liverpool, who started the game with five teenagers and didn’t sub on key players like Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk until the 61st minute, leaving themselves with too much to overturn and weren’t able to get back at United, who put the seal on the encouraging victory with a brilliant late fourth from Facundo Pellistri.

Ten Hag’s tenure may be early at this stage, and this performance was almost certainly aided by Jurgen Klopp’s questionable team selection, but with the positives plentiful for Man Utd, there is cause for optimism at the dawn of a new era… for now at least.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag speaking to MUTV: “I am satisfied today. It was a team with a great sprit and we know we are just getting started.

“We made some mistakes in the press, we conceded some chances, but we created a lot.

“We have to work hard to cut out the mistakes but of course we are happy.

“I know we have good players. We have started to build a team and I am happy with the first game.

“It will take a lot of time. I have seen a lot of mistakes. Liverpool played three teams, they were not at their strongest. We will not overestimate this result.

“But still, I have seen some really good things. A lot of speed and creativity up front.”

Tyrell Malacia had to say following his first outing in a Manchester United shirt: “I’m very happy. It feels amazing to be here and to wear this shirt.

“It was difficult. It was very hard, but we made it.”

On what fans can expect from him: “Some good defending. I hope to give some assists, and give some energy to the team.”

And looking ahead to playing in the Premier League: “Of course, it is a dream for me to play there and now I’m here.”

Speaking exclusively to Sky Sports News, Jurgen Klopp says he was excited to work with his new-look Liverpool side.

“We know how good Sadio is, we will realise how good he was for us in moments because there were just ‘Sadio moments’ when no one else can do it like him,” Klopp said.

“That’s not a bad thing because two years ago Diogo Jota came in and Diogo did amazing stuff for us. Bobby Firmino had probably not the season we all expected because of injuries but in training Bobby is back, 100 per cent. He’s a world class player.

“You don’t have to be worried when you think about us or you can be excited about what’s possible for us. We cannot do the same thing year-in, year-out, it’s just not possible. We have a base, we have to build on this base and be more unpredictable for other teams and that’s possible with bringing in other players because they have a different skillset.”

Klopp is not expecting any further player incomings this summer, while Neco Williams has joined Mane in leaving Anfield after his move to Nottingham Forest was confirmed.

And the German has answers for the key questions facing him ahead of the new season.

“How can you keep going? How can you improve a world class football team?” he said. “It’s by training, obviously – we believe in that a lot – but as well in bringing new players in. We need fresh blood, a new dynamic, fresh desire to create a team full of excitement and determination for the things coming.

“Sometimes you do it exactly like you want and sometimes you have to react on a situation like when Sadio told us that he wants to move on. We have to replace him, he’s a pretty good player. Thankfully we could do that already in the window by bringing in Luis (Diaz) and now Darwin. Fabio is a very exciting player.

“I’m really looking forward to it. It was always clear changes had to be made and I know for supporters it’s, ‘Oh my god he left how can we do this?’. I’m really excited about the new opportunity we’ve got.”

As mentioned, rival fans troll Darwin Nunez for missing an ‘open goal’ in the thrashing by Man Utd…
