Rishi Sunak and Southampton trolled by Fulham and Portsmouth with gone viral tweets and chants

Rishi Sunak and Southampton were trolled by Fulham and Portsmouth with gone viral tweets and chants throughout Saturday afternoon.

The Prime Minister saw his Southampton side relegated to the Championship after a 2-0 home defeat by Fulham, Carlos Vinícius and Aleksandar Mitrovic scoring after the Saints had a goal disallowed.

Sunak was in attendance at St Mary’s, but ended up getting mocked by the Fulham Twitter admin who made a joke at the leader the Conservative party by referring to one of West London’s most famous fans.

Sharing a photo of Sunak in the stands, Fulham wrote: “Sorry, the only Prime Minister we recognise is Hugh Grant.”

Of course, Hugh Grant is a massive Fulham fan and many will remember he played the UK prime minister in the 2003 movie Love Actually.

Fulham fans spotted the PM in the VIP area wearing jeans and a grey hoodie, taking to mock him as the hosts were condemned to relegation for the first time in 11 years.

Fulham fans chanted: “Rishi, what’s the score? Rishi, Rishi, what’s the score?”

Photos then emerged of Sunak looking dejected with how the game panned out for his beloved side, capping off a miserable week for him after his party came off heavy losses in the local elections.

In Sunak’s biography, he previously said as a youngster his father Yashvir was a season ticket holder of the Saints, and one of the prime minister’s “most prized possessions” was a card he had been given for his 18th birthday signed by the entire squad.

However, during his bid to become prime minister in August 2022, he was in the spotlight after saying Southampton could improve their fortunes by beating Manchester United that coming weekend.

The team were actually going to be playing Leicester City, but did have United the following week.

Southampton’s rivals Portsmouth also got in on the taunting act, with their Twitter page making a number of posts for all to see.

They wrote: “👀 How are you spending your Saturday without Pompey”

This was in reference to some of the fanbase linking up with Fulham fans in the away end at St Mary’s.

Then in came the trolling.

They said alongside a picture of Ryley Towler doing the ‘L’ celebration: “Good afternoon 😏”

Then the club added with result: “Hey, @FulhamFC x”

Meanwhile, Rebecca Eleanor, a Pompey fan and club ambassador, said she ‘picked a good day’ to watch her former employers as rivals Southampton were sent down.

Addressing her away day trip, Rebecca said on Twitter with a crying laughing emoji: “Sorry to burst everyone’s bubble but I wasn’t supporting Fulham just for the day.

“Everyone knows I used to work there and have a lot of friends there so still watch them play when I can. I just happened to pick a good day to do it today!”
