Ferdinand was delighted with the Brazilian forward’s goal, giving his team a stunning lead over City, who had controlled the game throughout the first half, before falling behind.
After some brilliant play by Luka Modric and Eduardo Camavinga, Vinicius Jr drove at Ruben Dias before unleashing a powerful strike into the top corner.
“Vinicius Jr,” Rio Ferdinand bellowed. “This is what he does! The difference! The difference! Soul snatcher, he’s a soul snatcher! Wow!”
“That’s what he does!” @rioferdy5‘s reaction after Vinícius Jr’s goal… 😂

Player of the match: Vinicius Junior
Pep Guardiola said post-match: “It was a really tight game. Congratulations to the team because in this competition and this scenario the teams are always so difficult for their history but especially their quality.
“We started really well and when we were better they made an incredible transition from Camavinga and an incredible finish from Vinicius.
“And when they were better than us in the second half, we scored a goal.
“It was a tight game. It’s open to Manchester, it will be a final playing at home with our people and we look forward to it.
“The effort was incredible. It’s like a play-off now.
“We know exactly what they have done. Maybe they will adjust something, maybe not. We have to see if we can defend a little bit better in some departments and attack because Alaba and Rudiger were so close to Erling. The spaces were occupied by Valverde and Kroos, it was not easy to find spaces for Erling.
“But we will try to adjust something maybe in the second leg to be more fluid and play with a bit more rhythm because we play at home and at home we feel comfortable with our people. We are going to try.
“The team that is going to win the game is going to get to the final.
“I’d rather 1-1 than 3-0 for Real Madrid.
“I’d have liked to win but I had the feeling that I was not expecting to have a wide result.
“We expect to adjust a bit in the second leg. I have a bit of an idea on what we need to do.”
As mentioned, Rio Ferdinand was slammed for bias while Alfie Haaland was seen escorted out after taunting Real Madrid fans…
ON ALFIE HAALAND:
@skjermskudd: Did more at Bernabeu than his son..
@kraj76: this is the reason why Roy Keane did what he did… you’re welcome
@timeisart3: Had a few too many sherry’s in Hospitality!
@Citizen_baker: Keep winding them up, it’s brilliant to see
@Valbenn1:
🎵Alfie
Alfie Alfie
Alfie Alfie
Alfie Alfie Haaland 🎵💙
@Fodenologyy: You had them rattled, absolute king! 👑
@SteveKayBackup: Legend Alfie 💙
@RichJow: Leeds that 🤜🏻
@4r5ty69: Embarrassing dad moment!
@ChrisMa88509535: And that ends that transfer speculation talk brilliant
@blu3ice83: @alfiehaaland what an absolute tool … living off his son now, trying to steal the limelight .. a grown man acting like this is rather pathetic
@CityBIue: Not a big fan of that tbh. Could mean a good thing for erling’s future though.
ON RIO:
@LeeBrom: We must be only team in Euro football who’s own host broadcaster openly roots against them – laughable. However it does highlight the biggest lie that “nobody cares about City.” Mr Ferdinand nearly wet himself at a goal going in against us – any film of him when we scored? #mcfc
@IanplewisLewis: I’ve binned BT Sports. Not paying them for their “coverage”. It’s always been so biased against City. And who wants to listen to “Rio” and McManaman? Both appaling.
@Markie_C: Wow great support for a English team. Get a grip.
@NUFCTalkPod: He knows he is been filmed. So over the top,
@Spanishdave4: @JoleonLescott you should have dropped him. Celebrated like he just cheated on his dying wife again
@manchesterisB: Disgustingly biased
@CityOnACard1: Are @btsportfootball happy with this blatant bias? Absolutely disgraceful in my book.
@andydxblad: “Lads have we got a video of one of our pundits being totally partisan? Yea it needs to show him actively cheering against the English team we’re broadcasting on English TV. Spot on, send it to me so I can tweet it out. This is gonna do numbers.”
@Blue_McKennaY: ou wouldn’t see this from Neville or Keane etc. If it was United playing, you wouldn’t see it from Lescott or Micah. Its embarrassing and typical of BT Sports. Yes, Rio is a Red but he’s also supposed to be a professional for a CITY vs Madrid game.
@SaintMcfc: Why is he doing our game ? He should be covering Europa where his team belongs
@darynbuckley: @btsportfootball Your coverage, once again is an Embarrassment. Two ex Real Madrid players, two ex United players? Embarrassing.
@Chris_G_Howard: Can you provide pundits that aren’t actively wanting the other team to win? Absolutely disgraceful broadcast.
@ianmcfc123: Let’s see him slumped on his chair please for the city goal.. The English team..
@DavyDArthur: Wonder why we hate him and BT. You wouldn’t believe there was an English team playing..British Telecom hardly British you utter prices.
@macctobarcelona: Impartiality is a principle of justice holding that decisions should be based on objective criteria, rather than on the basis of bias, prejudice, … Can we see the celebration for the City goal? @btsport @btsportfootball
@McfcLippy: I genuinely hope @ManCity refuse you entry to the return leg. Utter disgrace, celebrating like a Madrid fan. Not even ashamed of yours and @btsport clear City bias. Joke of a pundit
@Mo_87mcfc: From cheering on your team in the UCL to cheering for opponents of your city rivals in UCL .. 😂😂.. such a sad sad man
And @btsportfootball wonder why MCFC fans have been dissatisfied with their coverage since they started. Okay, so Rio didn’t wantCity to win but to tweet this shows nothing’s changed. A reminder of some early stuff: https://t.co/kU1fMqcn2Y https://t.co/WpDj9KZoIN
