Reporter names who Leeds ‘really want’ to become manager as a new favourite emerges

Reporter Phil Hay names who Leeds United ‘really want’ to become manager as a new favourite emerges according to the bookies.

The Athletic writer provided an update regarding the club’s search to find a new manager, claiming that they want to bring in Brendan Rodgers, but they will have a hard time convincing him especially as he could head back to Celtic.

After the 49ers took over the club from Andrea Radrizzani, Leeds are on the look out for a replacement to Sam Allardyce, who couldn’t keep the club up.

The club needs to hire a new manager, a sporting director, and restructure the team before a busy summer.

And speculation continues on who they’ll appoint with plenty of managers, including Scott Parker, Carlos Carvalhal, Carlos Corberan and Steven Gerrard linked to the Leeds job, but Hay says the search has led to looking to Brendan Rodgers and Daniel Farke.

He said that Leeds wants Rodgers but it will be difficult to convince the Northern Irishman that he should drop down to the Championship, while Farke could also be a possibility after impressing during the talks and hope to “wrap up” the search for a new boss this week, especially with fixtures released on the 22nd of June.

Rodgers, a former Celtic, Leicester and Liverpool manager, would be an incredible coup if Leeds can pull it off. A manager who has won the FA Cup and also managed in Champions League but reports link him ever closer to a Celtic return.

The Mail claims that Celtic sent representatives to Mallorca in order to talk to Rodgers about a possible return to Scottish football.

Farke, 46, has been promoted twice to the Premier League in his time with Norwich City and is now on the market after losing his job at Gladbach in Germany.

Corberan is also someone Leeds have looked at.

Sky Bet
Daniel Farke – 1/1
Graham Potter – 3/1
Carlos Corberan – 6/1
Brendan Rodgers – 12/1
Patrick Vieira – 12/1
Scott Parker – 12/1

Meanwhile, Leeds confirm the club’s retained list for the 2023/24 season has been submitted.

The following players will be released when their contracts expire:
Will Brook
Adam Forshaw
Stuart McKinstry
Joel Robles

The following scholar has been offered a professional contract:
Scott Godden

The following scholars will be released when their contracts expire:
Ben Andreucci
Jay Buchan

Both Adam Forshaw and Joel Robles have been invited back to the club for pre-season training, when the first team return in July.

Here’s what fans said as the reporter names who Leeds ‘really want’ to become manager as a new favourite emerges…

@Buybeckford: So many Negative Norman’s, 49ers having talks with the best two candidates available imop great start

@gandalflufc: Could be that Rodgers is waiting to see he Celtic want him first, I’d be fairly pleased with Farke too but would prefer Rodgers

@Josh_T95: Appreciate I might be preaching to the choir here, but would it not make sense to sort a DOF first? Why would you commit to managing a team without knowing who’s going to be heading up recruitment and what their plans are?

@JamesFletcher19: Club not looking at Vieira? Keen on him previously and seemed to come from nowhere in the betting yesterday. Any plans for another loft conversion this summer?

@woodend_c: Has to be Rodgers surely? Get the incentive, package and ambitious plan in place and then we go again with some momentum.

@MOT4EVA: If Rogers needs convincing then bin him…. nobody should need convincing to be Leeds united manager.

@charlieros1e: I’d give Rodgers until end of today to decide. If he’s not chomping at the bit then let’s get Farke in and move forwards #lufc

@leahwalx: Rodgers 😵‍💫

@Joshshepherd9: Rodgers going to Celtic just look at the betting he’s 1/4 on, and 6/1 for us, feel like we need a big name to hold onto some of the squad

@AllLoveLeeds: There we go it’s Rodgers we want. Get it done Leeds #lufc

@ROI_LUFC: If 49rs can persuade Rodger’s to sign then that proves they mean business

@KrzysztofWrzal: Not easy to persuade, but worth trying. It would be massive statement to sign BR. #lufc

@MrGallagher15: I’d prefer Rodgers, but don’t know if he’ll be convinced to take the plunge down to the championship. That coupled with our ownership/DOF situation, it’d be a huge risk for him whose reputation in the game is still very, very good. #LUFC

@GlynnTQ: Obviously Rodgers is the ideal but happy with Farke if it goes that way! Just need it done & then crack on with players next week! #LUFC

@LUFC__Nick: Given the choice, it has to be Rodgers over Farke. If we can’t convince Rodgers, Farke would still make a very strong managerial signing for Leeds. That being said, if both fancy it – We have to go for Rodgers, surely! #LUFC

@maltingsyork: I’ve watched with obvious interest the recent events @LUFC takeover/new manager/player rumours etc & seeing Stuart Webber is leaving Norwich are we looking at him forming a partnership with Daniel Farke at Leeds ? Would have liked us to show real ambition & gone for Rodgers #MOT

@andrewwilks1369: Farke. We’re a big fish in the championship, newly relegated, with a sizeable budget – so have a massive target on our back, we know that mgrs, plyrs and fans of other clubs don’t need an excuse to whip themselves up. Is Rodgers status in the game adding more fuel to the fire?

@Lufcburny: Just can’t see Rodgers wanting to come. Out of all the rest we’ve been linked with it’s Farke for me, he’s done it twice it’s a no brainer for me. Don’t understand all this Corberan talk either he’s done absolutely nothing yet

@PaulAllanson23: Benitez! Would have a plan and respect of the plays! Been in the Championship before and knows what’s needed to get out!

@jpeg1980: Leeds need a ‘big club’ manager. Too many are chewed up and spat out by the pressure at Leeds. Rodgers has had success at Liverpool and Celtic. If at all possible I go for him or someone like him. Not sure how Iraola Farke or Corberan would cope with the spotlight.

@jplufc100: Brendan Rodgers, proven track record. Development of young players. Good football

@jjeffers: Rodgers, the only one for me that shows ambition and doesn’t make us into a premier league yoyo club if we go back up with them.

@LUFC_Duffy: Rodgers. Signs of ambition and intent. Knows English football very well. Proven. Will have great pull. Do not want Parker; don’t rate him at all and he’s not good enough for Prem. Farke’s stint in Germany has put me off him
