Referee Keith Stroud apologises to manager Phil Parkinson, both sets of players clash, and Sheffield United fans mock Wrexham.
Yes it was quite the Carabao Cup First Round clash, with the Blades coming back from going behind to win 4-2 against the Welsh outfit.
Phil Parkinson was left frustrated at Sheffield United’s equalising goal, which he feels shouldn’t have stood, then watching his side threw away a one-goal lead.
Then right towards the end of the game, threatened to spill over, Revan got Wrexham’s second of the game, but his side were prevented from trying to get the ball for a quick restart.
Also in the game, there were some mocking from Sheffield United fans, a number of chants, one of which included “where were you when you were shit” directed at the those in the away end.
Goal!!!

Sheffield United fans singing “where were you when you were shit” to Wrexham fans is absolutely glorious. There is quite literally no comeback to that.

Phil Parkinson said Sheffield United’s equalising goal, per The Star: “The goal should never have been allowed. How the ref hasn’t seen that block is beyond belief. It’s right in front of his eyes – he’s five yards away from it and it’s a blatant block.
“We know Sheffield United are good at blocks – they’re clever on the corners – but when it’s as blatant as that, I expect the officials to see it.
“If we had kept the lead until half-time, it could have been a different night for us. In the second half, goals changed the game in terms of giving them a huge lift.”
He continued: “In the second half, give Sheffield United credit, they were excellent and goals as we know give teams lift and we can always do better in certain moments but we still had chances ourselves,” he added. “Sev (Revan) got a goal back and could have had a hat-trick really, he was unlucky not to score in the first half and the keeper’s made a great save from him.”
On giving experienced a game time to players: “It was a very good test because they have got a lot of very technical players and they had a very strong bench which Chris was ready to use if needed. They are going to be right up there again. Credit to them, they were clinical, we can do better in certain defensive situations but the lads have given a lot, it wasn’t to be for us tonight.”
Chris Wilder said: “I liked the attitude to adversity in terms of losing a player early on [Femi Seriki went off injured] and missing a few chances early on and going a goal behind,” Wilder said after the game.
“I thought we kept our shape and controlled the game. We had to be patient, and we kept that discipline, didn’t force it, and I’m delighted we took our chances in the second half.
“[Resilience is] what we need. It’s not going to be a straight-forward season. Regardless of the amount of changes we made, it was pretty much how I wanted it to look tonight. Play with a smile on your face, look out for each other, which they did, and if things happen that don’t go your way, keep believing in what you’re doing and that’s what they did.
“It was a competitive game, and we had to match that and come out the other side. Nobody’s going to bully us. Compete and play and win, and we did all three.”

Here’s how Twitter users reacted as the referee apologises to Phil Parkinson, players clash, Sheffield United fans mock Wrexham…
@_DanSquire: 4-5k playing the Dog & Duck for 15 years, always travelled in numbers.
@MattWi77iams: Really weird to see Sheffield supporters talking shit about beating a club from a lower league. Is this the highlight of their season?
@a_sufc: Stick that in documentary that u got hammered by our kids
@Danny_Hubbard1: The worst team to have come here so far this season
@alexmkerry: Beaten by the kids. Lovely ⚔️
@ajbutb: Hope you lot go bust 😁😁
@sparkydale: Some Sheffield United fans on here given the biggun beating Wrexham from League 1. Two seasons ago Wrexham were non league and S. United were in the Premier League, now only 1 division between both teams. Oh and congrats Sheffield U. on winning your first home game for 2024 😳
@BladeLVI: Shite 🤫 ⚔️
@FlynnRhyss: Tough result, at least we got under their skin a bit 😂 focus on the league now
@YouFUMS: Beaten by Sheffield United academy players 🤣🤣🤣
@BeardyBlade92: Stick that in your documentary 🤣
@MartinKTBFFH: Why on Earth are a Premiership/Championship calibre team like Sheffield United so utterly and embarrassingly triggered by Wrexham?
Multiple things wrong with this, Wrexham are the 3rd oldest club in the world; they don’t need that celebrity qualifier before their name. Also club “owners” are just custodians and should be considered as such, Wrexham isn’t theirs. https://t.co/RNfSwgJGgl
